Bring on the Saints. We can all sit and continue talking about woulda, coulda, shoulda with the Rams game, but it is over and time to look forward to the Saints. Another tough road game, to bad it isn’t the Saints of old. If the 49ers can somehow pull off a win and get back to 6-6 they still have an outside shot of playoffs with possible victories against the Packers, Cards. Hell I’ll take an 8-8 season. And who knows what will become of the Broncos with Cutler at the helm.

hopefully last week will bring positive practice sessions and the hunger for another win for this weeks upcoming game. also i really hope get some air under the ball this week. maybe some play action and get the heat off of gore. you know they are gameplanning against our run. we gotta get AB into the zone

Whatever happen to V.Davis the beast that was supposed to take us to the promised land? I hope he can also contribute.

Turner needs to be more aggressive on offense. We need to stretch the defense with 2 tight end sets that will let EJ stay in to block and Vernon to run down the middle to open up Antonio Bryant. Right now Vernon is a very expensive blocking tight end. Turner just needs to trust him to make the catch.

I still feel like they rely way too much on other teams to beat themselves rather than going out and winning the game. The role that Alex is being delegated to, even if it improves the chance at winning short-term, is going to prevent him from getting better long-term. Does anyone actually think they are playing well? I would like to see them go out and try to cut loose, but so long as the NFC is terrible and keeps them on the fringe of the playoffs all we’re going to see is “safe” playing and no real improvement on offense. Double edged sword, I know…
I will say this, the way Mangini is running the Jets is far more pallatable than the way Nolan is running the 49ers. This team should never be punting from inside the 40 of their opponent, and should never be kicking a fg ( unless it is for the lead ) in a 4th and 1 on the opponents side of the ball. Ever.

I hate to say this… well hell no i dont…. we got the shaft again in that one. seriously im not just sayin this as a 49ers fan but as a football fan, does anyone get fucked over as much as the 9ers??? if that spin move by torry holt before he got stripped for a FUMBLE isnt a “football” move then i dont know what the hell is. another huge play taken away from the 49ers, just like last week with battle getting into the endzone and somehow they take that away. then the eagles game.. holy shit the league had to send a letter of apology just to try and fix all the mistakes in that game, i believe we got scrwed out of about 200 and thirty-something yards. and we get a letter, how about an xtra win. seriously do we get fucked every week or is it just me!???

I have to agree wit you shaneO, how in the hell can the ref overturn the call on the field, which was a holt fumble, he clearly had possession and was turning up field- a definate ‘football move’.What i will say is that despite the negatives from this game (nolans decision, mrob’s 3rd down run etc) the way the o-line performed in the 2nd half and particularily in that last drive was a major plus, they can only bring that on to the saints game and hopefully beat up on another struggling run-D! hopefully we can couple up our dominant rushing wit a slightly more adventurous passing game, i would love to see AB and vernon running deep off the play acction! nolan was wrong to tell smith to throw the conservative pass in order to ‘manage’ the game, uve gotta let him loose and give him the confidence that his decisions on the field will be backed up by the coaches on the sideline! i say keep runnin gore, but ya gotta open up that air attack sooner or later

Yeah Yeah VD VD….let’s get VD more passes. Maybe once in while he’ll catch it and even hang onto it. Are you nuts? VD can’t catch and he has already cost us two early games this year. One by dropping an easy TD catch and one by fumbling. He also dropped a key first down in one of those games. He dropped another pass last week. I haven’t seen him out run anyone on the field (he slows down so his legs don’t break). Has anyone measured his hands maybe there to small to hold a NFL football? Until VD picks up the pace he is dead to me. Give the ball to EJ. He plays faster and won’t drop the damn thing.

We got screw on call this past sunday “again” and what do you know it was the same crew that was for the eagles game. NFL should make ref accountable for their mistakes specially the one the get challenge. VD needs to be the back up EJ should be starting. I thinl we’ll finish 7-9 I dont think we’ll win on the road is dissapointing because we had a legit shot at the play off. but the team has improve…with a new defense we’ll be next year in the play off no doubt. and possible contender in two years

I cant wait till this game. this should be called the Helix (High School)Bowl. Alex Smith Vs Reggie Bush. this is a great game to catch up in the division when seatle goes to denver to face a healthy team with a 10 day rest.

EJ plays faster? LOL…he is slow as hell.
Vernon has had a lot of drops but he is fast! what are you talking about?

Fuck it….. I say we run the table, go fucking balls out and see what this offense can really produce. Fuck all this conservative bull shit, we need to stop playing scared and throw some shit at’em

the real reason why we lost is alex smith. his inability to make plays has forced turner to simplify the playbook. all boot legs, misdirection, and some other repititive shit. way to go alex smith, #1 overall pick, highest paid!

i read somewhere on 49erswebzone that vd only dropped four passes. it seems like a lot more than that, but still they cant give up on the guy, hes a rookie and theyre paying him plenty of money. its not like he isnt talented or something like that. i say vernon davis is gonna be the focus on offense this week. gore needs some rest and i think everyone knows it. as awsome as gore is, he cant get 55% of the offensive plays every game, hes never gonna last a full season like that. it would be a shame to destroy frank gore like that

why does everybody here think they are a qualified scout? Davis plays slow and Smith makes us simplify the playbooks and we run repetitive shit? you can sure make it sound like you know what you’re saying…

Big M, you are SO right. I wish people who have no idea what they’re talking about would just shut the hell up instead of embarrassing themselves:
49erTNT says VD cost the Niners a game by dropping a TD pass even though that was in the first Rams game, which they WON. And omgs is just as clueless—the reason they run so many bootlegs is because the line is much better at run-blocking than pass protection (the most glaring example being Kwame Harris), and because Smith is so adept at throwing on the run. The only reason you would ever run bootlegs because of a QB’s deficiency is if he had great legs but no arm (e.g. Jake Plummer), but that is DEFINITELY not the case here—Smith’s arm strength is just fine. The only problem with Smith’s passing is that he doesn’t put nearly enough air under his deep passes, which forces him to be perfect to make the completion, and that can easily be fixed in time.

On a side note, although I wish we were at home, I’m glad we’re playing in New Orleans. In fact, I think Gore beats Bush anywhere except in Florida…...

Like a lot of 49er fans, I’m spoiled. 5 Super Bowls was a fantastic run for us. But I’m sane enough to know it’s a long road back.
23 hours after the fact.Under Nolan I see a good change. Moving in a positive direction.
The last two weeks the offense has started to open up a little and give Alex more options.
What I would like to see, one has been stated here. Vernon Davis has speed. Send him downfield and stretch the field. Like others said, even if he’s not open, it takes players away from Bryant and Battle, and keeps them from crowding Gore.
Second: Stop sending Johnson into the flat. He’s an excellent possesion receiver, but has no moves. He reminds me a lot of Brent Jones. Send him over the middle, just like Jones routes. He’ll catch the ball with his good hands, and not have to worry about making someone miss to get to the first down marker.
Keeping the left side of the line is VERY important, and like most, Harris wiffing does worry me. We don’t want Smith crippled.
Finally, thank god for Gore. Let’s pray he stays healthy.

My 5 cents worth…. VD is a rookie, you can´t hold a liable for a couple of mistakes on his first to games as a pro, no player is ever ready on his first game as a pro. To many butterflies, nervousness call it whatever you want, and it´s obvious the kid is nervous after breaking his leg. In regards to Alex Smith, I heard something interesting the other day, this kid (only 22 years old and the youngest QB in the league) has had to learn to playbooks in his first to years as a pro, and his shown significant imporvement. To me, he´s doing a great job… Patience my fellow Niner Fans, our time will come. We shouldn´t even be thinking about the playoffs this year, and the team is right there in the mix giving us a great season for and amazingle young squad. Go Niners, and let´s just hope for at least a playoff game this year, to me that would be great.

alright let me just say this once and for all:
shut the fuck up about nolan’s 4th and 1 call
stop saying VD can’t catch…apparently none of u watched him in college
and stop bitching about the refs calls…even tho it was clearly a fumble by holt
all the complaining and bitching isn’t gonna erase those losses alright? so can we please just try and be SUPPORTIVE of our coach and players? k thanks
