Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat is hinting that the 49ers may be looking to make a deal for a cornerback. The 49ers are currently ranked 25th in pass defense giving up 224 yards per game. Maiocco didn’t name any names or what the 49ers would offer, but most likely one of their fourth rounders could come into play.

That makes no sense. It’s not our corners doing a bad job, it’s the like of pass rush that’s killing us. We need better D linemen. That’s what we need to trade for.

Whoops, posted twice in accident. It gave me a message saying the first one did not post….
Davis #6 Pick for President, yes we need help in the pass rush but our primary weakness on defense is at cornerback. When a running team like the Kansas City Chiefs exploits our pass defense weakness to score instead of keeping it on the ground, you know we have to fix something. Besides, our pass defense has been a weakness the last 2 years. I doubt this rumor will accumulate into anything positive anyways but we shall see. Maybe we can trade Kwame Harris…..

maybe we should sign dieon sanders to come in and mentor shantae spencer and o shit we dont have any other young devolping corners(Derrick Johnson)
But really i think the trade is goin to be for Keiwan Ratliff from the bengals who was supossed to beat Tory James for the stating job but now is fourth on their depth chart.

I agree that the pass D has been AWFUL for years now, but i agree with Davis… that most of the blame should be on the pass rush and not the CBs. First off if anyone is to blame in the secondary its the safties, MOSTLY parish. as much as i hate to say it, its VERY obvious that leg injury prolly eneded his career cuz he is about 2 steps slow on every damn play and in the NFL thats about a 6 yard difference which = WIDE OPEN. also i dont think we have outstanding CBs but i think its fair to say spencer is still developing and Harris has been everything we could ask from him and MORE! The problem is we dont have CBs and S’s that can hold coverage for 5-8 seconds at a time ( as i dont think ANYONE does) and our pass rush just isnt forcing anything. honestly if u put the starting secondary from the pro bowl back there i dont know how well they would do with this pass rush. main point being.. WE NEEEEEEDDD pass rushing D-linmen… BAD!!

Oh noooooo … but we have so much depth at this position. We couldn’t possibly be looking for a corner. Recall … that’s why we let rump go … because there was soooo much competition and depth at the position. Give me a fuckin’ break! D line is more of an issue anyway.

How about a DT or a DE instead?
10 hours after the fact.Shaun Samra said:
we should sign dequincy Scott who was productive as a rotational DE who knew the way to the QB. That would also allow us to rotate M.Douglas with him which would allow both players to play at their best.
10 hours after the fact.ninesonrise said:
I think a safety would be money well spent. If we had a d- line that could force hurried throws it would’nt make a difference if you cant defend the completion. Any team that goes up against the niners wants to put the ball in the air. When they see that it is not an easy task they will keep it it on the ground, then you work on your pass rush.
11 hours after the fact.Bob In Pacifica said:
You’re not going to get a great player five games into the season. The team could probably do as well looking at who was waived by other teams after training camp. Let’s face it, there aren’t any great defensive linemen or corners out there that the Niners are going to pick up. Maybe someone will be marginally better, but the defense is gonna suck for the rest of the year. The only hope is that some of the young guys get better and that Nolan can come up with some stunts and tricks to baffle the other teams.

1. The chiefs released a nice big DT worth signing.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2621335
2. There are actually a great deal of #2 corners (Which we need) that either want out or the team needs to start thinking about the future. We have a great deal of picks, and I wouldn’t mind seeing a few mid-round extras going to pick up a solid corner, preferably with some speed.
3. To say that week 5 is too early, the deadline is week 6.
13 hours after the fact.hello said:
can you name some of those #2 corners.

Like me. I can still play (8 or 10 plays a game)
15 hours after the fact.Davis #6 Pick for President said:
ninesonrise, you don’t know a lick about football do you. 99% of the corners in the league will get burnt if you give the quarterback all day to throw the football. The opposing QB’s look like they are having a picnic back there when we play them. A good D-Line makes even average corners look good. Look at the Eagles defense. They replaced both of their star corners a few years but without notice… Why? Because of the D-line.
O-Line makes a good offense
15 hours after the fact.D-Line makes a good defense
That is how simple football is.

I’m still wondering why we never made a strong push for John Abraham or Ty Law or even both. I think our defense would be a whole different story right now if we had those 2. Probably be 4-1 or 3-2. I know Ty Law probably wanted way more money than the 9ers would dish out, and a very long contract that he ended up gettin from KC. But I think Abraham would have been well worth givin a long term deal to. Alls I know is we need a beast of a DT right now, someone to plow up the middle and help get to that QB cuze watchin these games is gettin ridiculous. Nothin gets on my nerves more than watchin the QB have 3 hours to throw then watchin the WR catchin the ball 5 steps ahead of our DBs, its outta control.
18 hours after the fact.Samra said:
hey #1 Dick Slapper, u dont know shit about the niners do you. We run a 3-4 defense where our front three consist of one humongous NT and two under tackles. John Abrham couldn’t play on our line and there is no way he would play LB as Andre Carter had to or Manny Lawson has to.
1 day after the fact.MJ said:
Samra, you should know that the 49ers did make a push for Abraham. He declined coming here to San Francisco because we would not offer enough money and because he did not want to play for Mike Nolan. If you look back into some of the very very old blogs, I think someone had a link to a page about that.
As for Ty Law, yes we should have nabbed him. What is done is done though. I am hoping the cornerback in the works is Nate Clements or Asante Samuels since their contracts expire this year. That would be a huge boost to the defense. We also need a good pass rusher though, and I would prefer a free agent as opposed to getting one from the draft. Does anyone know?
1 day after the fact.MJ said:
Whoops, at the end there I meant to say does anyone know of a website listing all of next year’s free agents???........

Hey samra ever heard of switching defensive strategies. Im sick of seein your bitch ass comments on this board tryin to put down folks just cuze they don’t have the same opinion as you. Anywhere in my statement did I say I thought John Abraham should play DT??? show me where I said that you stupid fuck. All I said is we should have made a strong push for Abraham and last I checked he would be an upgrade from Marques Douglas. Bryant Young don’t have much time left, and Abraham is still pretty young. Now I don’t know about you but I think if we had Abraham, Adams, and Young starting with Douglas and Sopoaga rotatin in that would have beefed up our D-line immensley. We need to take a page out the Philly Eagles playbook and get a good number of solid DTs and DEs so we can rotate in and out and keep the D-line fresh throughout the entire game. Then maybe the QBs won’t have 3 years to throw the ball.
1 day after the fact.Phenom said:
i think we need to either draft Antoine Cason or sign Clemens or Samuel to upgrade the DBs, to upgrade the D-Line it would be nice if the titans would let Hanyesworth walk and we can nab him or pick up Dalton cuz he would upgrade our DT situation. There are a ton of good DE’s in the draft that can play 3-4, Adam Carriker, Dan Bauzin, Barraka Atkins, maybe Gaines Adams or Quinton Moses but i dont think the niners will go DE in the 1st.
1 day after the fact.49erFAN408 said:
maybe we should sign troy vincent.

hey #1 Dick Slapper, John Abraham was not suited for the 3-4 at all (such as Jon Engelberger), and plus if he was good enough to play a 3-4 DE then he would not have had to leave NYJ who traded him because they were switching to a 3-4. your fuckin gay ass says that we could have signed him so we could switch defensive strategies, u truly are a stupid fuck arent u? who in the right mind would pay Abraham what he wanted, only to play him 50 % of the D snaps, and would u rather have him or ‘money’ Lawson, because Abraham cost ATL a low first rounder and that bitch is 28(only about 3 good years left). Stop takin shit to ur asshole and perhaps ur new name should be #1 dick slapped bitch.

Hey gay boy samra like I said I’m sick of your bullshit comments just cuze someone don’t agree with your gay ass comments. And last, any player, if they are truly a great player, can convert and adapt to any defensive scheme.
2 days after the fact.Phenom said:
Abraham is too small to be a DE on a 3-4 line, he would get pushed around too much which is why he is nt a 49er, we need a DE who is big and can push the OT around and get to the QB

U know what bitch suck my dick. Ur prolly some 13 year old jackin off to porn right now, and playing madden is the only other thing u do. Maybe in Madden, Abraham could play a 3-4 DE, but not in the real world. So come out of your little closet and live in the real world mothafucka. And when u say I guarentee if your bitch ass seen me in person you’d change your tune real quick, pussy ass nigga, i think its the reverse bitch, unlike u i actually play sports (wrestling, the real shit)and could take ur ass anyday so why wont ur bitch shut the fuck up and take it like a man. Plus u can only say nigga if ur black and u sure as hell dont sound black so stop pretending to be something ur not. Plus u said a great player can convert and adapt to any defensive scheme, lets see if Warren sapp was able to do that when he converted into a 3-4 DE like B.Y. Did. Bitch Shut ur ass up and stop actin all hard, learn how to face reality, i wasnt tryin to put ur stupid ass down instead i was telling u the truth that Abraham wouldnt fit in our scheme at all. All I said is a great player should fit into any defensive scheme somewhere some how, if they are really a great player. Look at the way Phenom put the info out there in a coo way, I went and checked the stats and I saw Abraham was 250 not 270 like I thought he was at least, respect game. Still I never said he could play 3-4. You on the other hand is some coward you tries to make himself feel good by talkin tough on the computer. 4 days after the fact.Hey samra you dumb fuck, whos the idiot now? Didn’t you say the 9ers don’t play a 4-3, and would never change their defensive scheme? Well you stupid fuck what defensive formation did they play today? Let’s see Douglas, Fields, Adams, and Young with Smith, Ulbrich and Moore at LB. What formation is that? Well what do you know they tried a new defensive strategy for this game, and you were trying to say they wouldn’t change their scheme for John Abraham when they just did it for the fuck of it. Teaches you to keep your stupid fuckin mouth shut idiot.

4 days after the fact.I never said that we never run i 3-4, y wont u try to find that comment. I said we play a 3-4, which doesnt mean 4-3 or a dime defense is out of the question, We dont play the 4-3 enough to sign Abraham and justify it. Plus i much rather would have Manny Lawson than Abraham because of all he brings to the table, (youth, Run Defense, Pass Rush, and the ability to stay healthy for the most part) Abrham hasn’t played a whole season in a while.
