Former Sacramento State star Otis Amey was one of the players released Saturday as the 49ers winnowed their roster to the 53-man limit.
Amey, who scored a 75-yard kick-off return in last year’s season opener, played sparingly this preseason. He said the team decided to keep only five wide receivers this year: Arnaz Battle, Antonio Bryant, Bryan Gilmore, Taylor Jacobs and Brandon Williams.
“Coach Nolan told me I did everything he ever asked of me,” Amey said by phone. “It was a numbers game.”
