After catching a 15-yard sideline pass from Alex Smith and squeezing into the end zone, the rookie tight end from Maryland rose to his feet, spiked the ball, faced the Cowboys’ fans, arched his back, and spread his arms.

Later, Davis acknowledged he was imitating Owens. And the next day, coach Mike Nolan said he would discuss the celebration with Davis and instruct him to “act like he’s been there before.”

Davis said he has talked to Nolan about his celebration, but he said the coach has not told him to tone down his act.

“He just asked me what kind of celebration was that?” Davis said. “I was telling him that I was doing that because when Terrell Owens played Dallas, he stood on the star and put his arms up. So I just kind of did that to kind of make fun of him doing that.”

Davis said he enjoys other players’ celebrations, but only to a point. He said such recent sideshows as Joe Horn grabbing a cell phone after a touchdown, or Chad Johnson performing CPR on the football went too far.
