lb,

You don't get it.

The team needs a 3rd QB to run the scout team. Battle and Robinson must be left free to work on their primary responsibilities, which are being a WR in Battle's case, and RB in Robinson's case. During game week's Hamdan's job will be quarterbacking the scout team. You don't want to take Battle especially out of the flow of learning the game plan. Robinson will also need lots of reps to learn his running and blocking assignments.

The scout team QB will NEVER participate in regular team drills. All they do is pretend they are the QB for the upcoming opponent. Either Palmer or Hill COULD have done that but neither of them are eligible to be on the Practice Squad, and Nolan, correctly, would prefer not to take a regular roster spot for a "scout team" player. That will be Hamdan's job.

Thanks DJ432, that makes a lot of sense. This was a smart move afterall. It is like having Alex Smith, Trent Dilfer, and Hill (if we keep Hill) while getting Hamdan without using up a roster spot for adding Hamdan. I like it.

dd,

I'lll say it once again. Read the posts above you before you go off on tangents like this.

The very move Nolan made here is to set up the possibility off creating a roster spot FOR A DEFENDER after the cuts to 53.

So...look for Hill to get a good amount of time tomorrow night, if for no other reason than to make sure Smith and Dilfer stay healthy for the league season. Now, with Hill on the roster along with Hamdan, Hamdan will certainly be cut and hopefully, moved to the practice squad after he clears waivers next Wednesday.

THEN, if a defender that Nolan wants becomes available, and a roster spot is needed, Hill is cut, and Robinson becomes the #3 QB, where it is hoped he won't be needed.

NOW, you and I, and everybody else that wants to see more defensive help, will get a DEFENSIVE player (or perhaps a WR) get signed that would not have been available had the team not played this little shell game.

I don't mean to be a d!*K, just trying to say that in matters like this, you need to give the guys who see the players everyday, and DO HAVE A PLAN FOR THE FUTURE, a little credit for knowing what they are doing.

Thank you very much DJ and actually bringing some knowledge here. It's annoying when people get all pissy over crap they know absolutly nothing about. What you said is exactly what Nolan had in mind. Great move IMO.

mike,
did you bother to read my post just above what you just put up?

That explains the very sound reason the team signed Hamdan. There is no intention this guy would ever see game day activity. Rather it is a strategy to assure a practice team/emergency QB WHILE FREEING A SPOT TO PICK UP A DECENT DEFENSIVE PLAYER WHEN OTHER TEAMS CUT TO 53.

If a defensive player becomes available, look for Hill to be cut to make a roster spot for him and Robinson becomes the emergency QB while Hamdan remains on the practice squad. That is what this whole domino game is about.

I can't make it any more clear to you than that.
