You say I pointed out we have been rebuilding three years already; YES, WE HAVE! When you get a rookie quarterback and your team’s most famous players are gone it is called “rebuilding.” This last season marked year #3 in which the newspapers, internet articles, and 49ers coaches themselves defined the 49ers struggles as a “transition of rebuilding.” If you want to argue that we are just now starting over, you are out of touch with reality!

BurlyD_83, how dare you compare Mike Nolan to Bill Walsh? Someone really needs to smack your ass. That was one bad season surrounded by many great seasons. Bill Walsh showed signs of improvement while Nolan shows signs of decline. And thanks for stating the obvious in stating that “Nolan was handed a team that was worse than when Erickson took over.” Now I am convinced that you truly are an idiot. Erickson was handed an AWESOME team, in fact if we kept Mariuchi and never hired Erickson I would bet you we would have 2 or 3 more superbowls at this time. The fact of the matter is that Erickson did ruin the team by taking it in the wrong direction. Nolan is taking the team in another direction than Erickson, but still in the wrong direction as well.

All your BurlyD_83’s would have defended Erickson when he was head coach, it is your nature. That is why you defend Nolan’s approach now, eventhough it is wrong. You want to know what your main problem is? You think it is an all or nothing dilemma. You think we either MUST build through and only through the draft OR by going after big name players. I am suggested we do BOTH, something that Nolan and you do not believe in. I have watched players from Ty Law and Lavaar Arrington to most recent Stallworth and Lelie gets snatched up. We see problems in the preseason exhibitions and do nothing to fix them. What you call a QUICK FIX is what I call a positive step in the right direction. IT IS POSSIBLE TO PICK UP A BIG NAME PLAYER WITHOUT GOING INTO SALARY CAP HELL! Maybe if we did get a bunch of big name players we may not make a superbowl but it would be signs for us fans that the team is making efforts towards contention.

Apparently we are suppose to go from worst to best in 1 year or else everyone in the organization is shit. (I agree… You HAVE to through out the entire Dennis Erickson Era, because it didn’t mean shit… Nolan’s first year is where you have to “Re-start” our re-building process)

The reason the 9ers offense diddnt move the chains in the past two games were because Norv had Alex stay in the pocket. As we all know Alex is not a pocket passer, much like Vick but not flashy. When the regular season starts i forsee that Norv and Nolan gameplan Smith to bootleg more often and that will also help our run game, which wasn’t bad, Gore has 98 this preseason, 40 something against the cowpaddies. And our defense did not have all our starters playing. Hey maybe Nolan is trying to keep some stuff back so the Cardinals wont know what hit them in Week 1,

I dont know though, all i do know is that it takes 3 years to rebuild a franchise with one coach, we have had 2 i the past three, if you call erickson that and we have had to start over. Give him more time.

As for free agents, i was a little upset that we didnt get big names but i think we are taking after the Ravens and the Patriots franchises, they, as i recall, didnt land any big time free agents when they went to the supper bowls, I so think the addition of Larry Allen, Bryant and Dilfer will get this team over the hump this year and challenge for a wild car spot at 8-8 our schedule is soft and Gore should have a big year considering that the 9ers season opponents 9th worst in run defense. Just give it time, i know we all want to win now but in the long run we could win for a long time.
