Associated Press is reporting that the New England Patriots gave holdout wide receiver Deion Branch a week to seek a trade and negotiate a contract with another team.
We have calls out there trying to see if the Niners are showing any interest in Branch. We know they had some interest in Lelie, but didn’t want to part with what the Broncos were asking. Most likely landing Branch would cost more than what the Broncos were looking for, so with that the Niners may not be interested. Also the money Branch is looking for deal wise might be in the Niners best interest. If we hear anything we’ll pass that info along.

Goodness, I hope this happens. I doubt it though, our owner is cheap and Nolan cares more about defense than offense. Nolan is intent on having Antonio Bryant as our #1 receiver. Branch would Bolster the team up an insane amount and make our recieving corps, in my opinion, comparable to the best in the league if this goes down. I don’t want to get my hopes up though, I will just pray…..
49 of 49, you are right we have the money. Please York, you penny pinching jackass, just this once do something to better the 49ers! PLEASE!

i would rather make a trade for an impact DE or LB. our pass rush and secondary are horrible. remember, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

We have 3 4th rounders and possibly a 4 4th rounders next year pending Julian Peterson’s performance. Give up 2 4th rounders for Branch! Afterwards, cut the recievers roster in half.
And No One, there are no impact DE or LB on the market. There are only more players like Moran Norris.

Look… I’ll admit that Branch would be a great WR to bring in to the 49ers, but seriously… WE ARE NOT CONDENDING FOR A SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR
Meaning – 1. Branch probably doesn’t want to go from the top teams in the NFL to the 49ers and be a part of rebuilding (i could be wrong, but i doubt it).
We are re-building and we are doing it “Thru the Draft”... Nolan has said it many times!
To get Branch, we would have to part with 1 or more high round picks!
No, we don’t have a “Great” offense, but that is what we focused on this year and it is much improved over last years unit… now we need to gain picks for our defense in next years draft!
Its only a matter of time before this team is re-built and contending… there is no “Quick Fix”... We are not the Redskins (who by the way haven’t won jack shit and has given all there draft picks and money out along the way).

Branch is staying with the Patriots. They are just letting him seek and trade to prove that nobody is going to pay him more than New England.

The Redskins will make it to the playoffs and possibly the superbowl this year. They got a beast in Andre Carter who didn’t perform so well last year because he was forced to learn and play OLB

I hope they do this deal. Dude is a speed burner. It would definatley make us a force on offense.

Some of you guys are overlooking the fact that this has to be a TRADE, and then the contract deal.
The 49ers can afford the contract but they have NOBODY that they would be willing to give up that NE would be willing to accept.
As to draft choices, NE would demand a #1, or a #2 and a #4 or #5.
For the 49ers, who MUST add an impact defender, plus at least 3 other starters on defense next year if they are to have playoff hopes, they just can’t give up that many high picks next year.
Sorry. We will have to sit this one out.
That’s the way I see it.
7 hours after the fact. The voice of reason said:
First of all, they are going to want at least a 1st or 2nd rounder for Branch. A couple of 4th rounders aren’t going to hack it.
So why give up a 1st or 2nd rounder when we can draft someone as good as Branch or better in a very deep receiver draft next year? Also consider that to reach a contract agreement with Branch he is going to want a massive signing bonus and was holding out for a ~$9 mil a year deal from New England. If we draft someone they will demand a large signing bonus but their yearly salary (which is what really matters to the cap) will be low.
Its not like we are looking for that one piece to put us over the top. We aren’t likely to be competing for a playoff spot, let alone a Super Bowl.

Forrest is probably right. Deion Branch is a Superbowl MVP and a bad ass reciever. I would love, love to get this guy but I doubt it that we will even try to trade for him.

donnie edwards, a linebacker on the chargers, is available and the chargers only want a 4th round pick, which we have like 3 of. why dont we try and get him

we should get donnnie edwards and deion branch. we have alot of draft picks, and the chargers aren’t asking much.

Man they going to fuck around and bullshit I mean we never make those kind of moves to improve our team and the patriots are only trying to show that the contract the offerd branch is fair and that other teams is not going to offer him that much more and what ever he gets offered it will get matched.
I want us to get him like everybody else but it’s just a test of what his market would be and the niners organization bullshit on moves like thi and the patriots need him!
21 hours after the fact.KNOW IT ALL said:
Actually the Chargers are asking for a 3rd pick for Edwards, & he wants to go to the Saints who are only offering a 4th rounder. I say give them the 3rd or 2 4th rounders, & as for Branch well I say for get it we can always draft a reciever next year in the draft.
22 hours after the fact. The voice of reason said:
Again, Edwards is another pickup that would make little sense. In fact it would make even less sense than Branch, because at least he isn’t on the wrong side of 30. Edwards would be at best a 1 or 2 year patch at OLB, and has already started to lose a step. It might be a good pickup for leadership reasons, but we already got some veteran ‘backers to fill that role.
Again, for a team not in Super Bowl contention trading away draft picks for players is often a bad move. The way teams like New England have stayed in the Super Bowl hunt year in and year out is by building through the draft.

Justin I think it was because he got in trouble for druken driving again, I think it was his 2nd count in the last year.

For the record, Koren Robinson has failed 3 substance abuse test and the latest DUI will result in a 1 year suspension by the league. In addition, he has a lengthy history of off-field “incidents.” Mike Holmgren couldn’t wait to unload him out of Seattle. The guy will likely never play NFL football again. No one will touch him after this.
