can't get lelie, he was just traded to atlanta apparently in a trade that included TJ Duckett

he Atlanta Falcons traded running back T.J. Duckett to the Washington Redskins on Tuesday as part of a three-team deal and acquired holdout receiver Ashley Lelie from the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos received Washington's third-round pick in the 2007 draft as part of the deal, according to two officials within the league who spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been officially announced.

Barlow is a bum. We dont need that kind of underaachieving attitude on this team. Yes he has talent, but after his big payday? What has he done? Im glad the jets took that salary. Gore will be a very good running back and with mo and m. robinson thats good enough. We should trade Eric Johnson strait up for lelie. We have V.D and Walker. Remember this is E.J final year on his current contract, why not get something now for him instead of letting him walk. Besides with E.J out of here thats more plays for walker.

well put, i disagree with mj on almost every single one of his posts, a playoff bound team doesnt happen over one season, especially not with the tragedy donahue/erickson left! excellent comment man, you just beat me to the punch.

i'm not already looking forward to the draft, i'm simply stating that by the time the season's over, we would have already forgotten about kevan...what's his name....secondly, i never have and never will count the niners out of the season until the last game is played. and 3rdly, i hope nolan DOES come back next year, i mean do all of u really expect him to turn this franchise into a superbowl contending team in his 2nd year ever as a head coach with all the young ripe talent he is slowly watching develop? as long as we finish with AT LEAST a 6-10 record, nolan deserves 1 more season...if we don't make playoffs next season, or even become wild card contenders, THEN i say he deserves the boot

MJ

I have also been a 49er fan for a long time. And I would like to see things get better quickly. However, your post is not realistic.

First of all, Kevin Lynch of the Chron reported way back in February that there would be very few FAs who would want to come to SF because the franchise had a reputation for being "cheap." He predicted that any player that did come here would demand a premium of up to 30% above what other teams might offer.

Now I don't know anymore than you do what teams offered but I do know that the 9ers were interested in several players they were not able to sign for unstated reasons.

Second, in making trades, the other team has to want what you are offering. In the Lelie deal, Denver didn't need a running back and they wanted a higher pick than he was worth. It was the equivalent of demanding a #2 for Barlow - it wasn't going to happen. The Jets wanted Barlow but they had no one that would have improved the 49er team. They had offered Derek Strait to Cleveland in the Suggs deal, and it is assumed they would have been willing to send him here. However, Suggs is an underachieving 4th round pick who COULDN'T KEEP A STARTING JOB WITH THE JETS. Would you want a guy like that? We just dumped Rumph because he wasn't going to make the team. Strait was Rumph with different cloths.

Back in April there was talk here about Koren Robinson. Nolan was asked about it and he said they weren't interested. No we find Robinson in big-time legal trouble and will probably face a 1 year suspension for his DUI, because it violates his probation.

I could go on...

Third, what player left in "house cleaning" that you think we should have kept? And, been able to pay what other teams were offering and still be under the cap?

Finally, it was acknowledged around the league that the 49ers were one of the very weakest of the weak last year. They had NO talent. Do you really think we should have kept any of the dead wood left over from the Donahue/Erickson days?

Man, read your post before you hit send. You have passion for your team but your points are just not realistic.

Jer, llisten to yourself. Your last sentence says "....escpecially come draft time." Dude the season has not even began yet! Are you already accepting this is another failed season and good ol' Nolan will "build us" through the draft again? I am not having that! Second of, yes Delanie Walker is an awesome player. I thought so before the Bears game. He should not be a TE though, he should be a wide reciever which would boost up our receiving corps and add a huge, fast offensive threat. As for VD, the guy will eventually be great but as of now he has talked more than he has played whereas EJ has experience under his belt. If we trade EJ it is a mistake, and a big one. Please keep in mind that our biggest weakness is at quarterback. Yes, Smith WAS a rookie last year. Sure, even Troy Aikman had a horrible first season, but Aikman was not the #1 pick overall in his draft! Before VD, Bryant, or any reciever we do add (probably not a big namer knowing Nolan) there is still Alex Smith throwing to them......and you know what fine I will give the kid another year. However, this building through the draft crap ensures 2 things:

1. Nolan comes back next year. This is a scenario I am not wanting.

2. We get inexperienced players who, when they finally do become good players, we will cut because penny pinching York will not pay them what really contenders will pay.

Unfortunately, instead of getting angry and demanding better of your team I have noticed people are just settling for what it is, like this team has always been shit. (AND IT HASN'T!) Instead of wanting veterans, I hear ridiculous arguments like "bringing in Ty Law (For example) will only take away opporunity for our young inexperienced cornerbacks. We need to let them play." Are you idiots? We want to win and win now. Rookies behind veterans build great players. T.O. is what he is because he was a kid that sat on the bench when Rice played. Mar Bulger was good because he learned behind Kurt Warner. Hell, even the Raider's Lamont Jordan who punished our linebackers last Sunday is good because he was behind Curtis Martin. So what do the 49ers do? WE GET A FREAKING 4th ROUNDER FROM NEXT YEAR!....BULLSHIT!

i highly doubt they'll get rid of EJ...on the other hand, if they for whatever reason decide to, we still have vernon davis and a name that many will soon become familiar with...delanie walker...not to say EJ is expendable, but it's not like nolan's cutting players just cuz he didn't draft 'em...he gave these guys that we don't have anymore all of last year and this year in training camp to prove themselves and obviously they haven't. He wants team players, leadership, special teams guys, and more importantly: A RUNNING BACK THAT CAN GET PAST THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE

I mean give Nolan an co. some credit...he's cleaning up erickson's mess that no doubt set us back at least 3 years...give it time, u'll all see this was a great move in the end...especially come draft time
