We have Bryant. We have the oft-injured Battle. Then what? Gilmore who has been a project and Williams who is a rookie.

Jacobs should be in the mix for the #5 WR spot with McAddley, et. al.

OTOH, Rumph sucked and always sucked and was just another marginal talent made "big" in college by the surrounding help and low-level competition. Like it or not, the guy had cement feet, stiff hips and was terrible at taking angles in space making him ineffective as a Cover 2 corner or safety. Rumph had no future with this team and, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Redskins cut him too.

Personally, I don't like the trade. Corner is our weakest position. Even if he did suck, we need depth. I hope our corners can stay healthy this year unlike the past decade it seems like. People have made great points about Rumph not contributing at all and they've been correct. But I still don't like this trade. We got some other mediocre receiver and that's the last thing we needed. I'd rather take a very underachieving corner for at least one more year rather than trade for a receiver we'll never hear of once the season starts.

While I liked Mike Rumph, the consensus theory is correct: he wasn't going to make this team. Nolan and McCloughan knew this and were naturally willing to listen to anyone who actually wanted him.

The Redskins called, the 'Niners plucked a guy that the 'skins were willing to trade. Both sides think they made out on this deal, and as sausagebrown mentioned above... both may.

Jacobs was an elite receiver in college, and has always supposedly had a great work ethic. With our current WR corps, he could work his way into 4th, or even 3rd (if Battle doesn't ever get 100% healthy). Jacobs could possibly contribute, Rumph wouldn't have here.

Good trade: move something that we know is "dead weight" and receive something we can at least see what happens with.

Great deal, Nolan. Rumph was going nowhere fast and I know what they say about Florida WRs but if Jacobs can stay healthy, he can make some plays. Last year in his one chance to start he was ineffective for the Skins but let me ask you this, who wasn't with Mark Brunell throwing the ball? Plus. Gibbs is doing the same thing as Nolan trimming the fat from the previous staff. Jacobs will contribute in San Francisco

4 missed tackles from a veteran is unacceptable. Rumph was a joke anyways. This was a good move, because it instills fear throught the entire roster. It let's them know they better play at there best, or fear losing their position on the team...Isn't Nolan's method of improvment working for the team so far???

rumph has been one of those donaghue disappointments since day 1. He would have been cut, we save money trading him, and jacobs will be our fourth wide out.

CB depth chart:
1 spencer
2 Harris
3 Davis
4 Johnson
5 Hudson

I don't know why i got traded. They say I can't cover anybody, and they say I can't tackle. Don't know what they are talking about. I always try to go for the big hit when I tackle. I just lower the shoulder and go for the boom. Who wants to see a wrap-around tackle anyways? People want to see the big hit. So what if two, three, even four guys run right past me? No big deal.

If guys show heart, like Eric Johnson, I'm sure Nolan & co. don't have a problem. What becomes evident is how BAD Donahue and Erickson really were at managing and coaching at this level.

People labeled as "busts" on one team can still turn it around given another chance (fresh start) in new system. Rumph was likely to be cut, but we got someone who might thrive here, or at least make a positive contribution. Rumph may do well in Washington, but it doesn't mean he would have done the same here.

and MJ, it's not just Nolan making these decisions...
