Matt Maiocco is reporting that cornerback Mike Rumph is no longer with the 49ers.
The 49ers on Monday announced a trade that sends Rumph to the Redskins for wide receiver Taylor Jacobs, a second-round draft pick in 2003. Jacobs caught 11 passes for 100 yards and no TDs last season for the Redskins in 15 games.

Jacobs profile heading into the draft
Positives: Good route-runner with above-average speed and quickness … Shows no wasted motion in his release and uses his hands effectively to defeat the press … Runs precise routes, sinking his hips properly and showing a sudden burst through his routes … Can create space in his separation with his hip swerve and wiggle … Plucks the ball with his hands and has the agility and leg drive to punish defenders after the catch … Has an exceptional burst in and out of his breaks … Shows the toughness needed to combat for the ball in traffic … Has outstanding work ethic and is very quick to digest plays.
Negatives: Needs to do a better job coming back for the ball … Does not make proper body adjustments going up for the ball and appears more comfortable catching passes thrown right at him … Can pluck the ball away from his framework, but still tends to body catch … Will show willingness as a blocker, but lacks technique and power to consistently face up.

Upset over his poor performance in the 49ers’ exhibition opener, cornerback Mike Rumph spent extra time on tackling at Sunday’s training-camp practices. Rumph missed four tackles in Friday’s 28-14 win over the Chicago Bears, including one that allowed a receiver to score a touchdown.
“I went out today to get better and I did get better,’’ Rumph said. “I was the first one to go in tackling drills and I did a little extra in practice. I’ve just got to get back into it.’‘
Rumph, the team’s first-round pick in 2002, could have been a little rusty. Injuries have limited him to five games in the past two seasons. He missed the last 13 games of 2005 after tearing a muscle in his foot.
“Definitely, I haven’t played a game in a while,’’ Rumph said. “But I mean, four missed tackles? I don’t think I’ve missed four tackles in my career. I think once I get that first good hit, that first tackle, it will come back to me.’‘
Heading into next Sunday’s game against the Raiders, Coach Mike Nolan said Rumph will continue working with the second-team defense. But in a scramble for roster spots, he’s also being pressured by Sammy Davis, rookie Marcus Hudson, B.J. Tucker and Derrick Johnson.
“Coach Nolan wants people to compete, and that’s what I’m here for,’’ Rumph said. “I’m not sitting here saying I’m locked in on this team. Maybe it was like that my rookie year. It’s not like that no more.’‘
