Don’t be shocked if Niners former first-round pick Mike Rumph doesn’t survive the team’s final cut. In addition to falling behind newcomer Walt Harris in the battle for one of the team’s starting CB roles, Rumph is a product of the pre-Mike Nolan regime, and we’re told the current organization has a real bias in favor of players it has drafted or signed.

That would probably be the dumbest and most irrational thing to do. I do believe that anything is possible these days, but if we cut Rumph, what would be the reasoning behind that? Our secondary is by far the worst area on both sides of the ball and we need all the depth we can get. Nolan, if you do this, you are a dumbass.

Coaches prefer players they drafted over those drafted by previous coaches? Really? Next ESPN will tell us that coaches prefer touchdowns over field goals.

Why, is coach Nolan ready to dump Rumph. Is he trying to make the 49ers a all rookie team? Wake up and smell the coffe and keep some good team members.

This is just espn trying to fabricate an interesting story. Theres about a… 0% chance of Rumph being cut.

It would be ridiculous to not start Rumph somewhere on defense, let alone to cut him.

Here we go about to fuck shit up once again rumph should be in the secondary maybe not at corner but in the secondary.

And another thing our Db’s were already weak so let’s not subtract from what we have let’s add and get better unless that’s york trying to save money for marketing and not winning I wish he sell the team cause since he was the owner shit has been fucked up!

I thought Nolan never made a mistake?...I think they should keep the under achieving Rumph at least for another season until the secondary ranks are filled with a bit more ‘competent’ players.

Good move. Rumph was a bust from the get-go. He can’t play nfl corner, and didn’t do anything when they put him at safety—which is supposed to be easier—especially for a 1st round corner. Now is the time to clean house and make room for someone who hasn’t the starts and playing time Rumph has had. Some of the young guys like Bruce Thornton deserve to get a shot—Rumph has had plenty of time to prove himself. NFL means not for long.

I didnt think there were so many rumph fans around. He better start showing something soon and prove he can stay healthy. One nice hit on T.O. does not a career make.

Rumph is a fucking joke. Seems like half the people here now what they are talking about. I hope you guys realize , Rumph might be the Dime CB. Lets all go way back, we have two new CBs and and some youngesters that are way better then rumph such as Derrick Johnson and Bruce Thornton

Yes, Rumph has been a disappointment, especially considering the fact that he was a first round draft pick. But, that doesn’t mean the other dregs in the secondary are better than him. “Bias” should never taint a head coaches roster decisions. “Bias” against your predecesseor’s draft picks causes mistakes. You wouldn’t cut Bryant Young because he was idiot Vinnie Cerrato’s draft pick. You wouldn’t cut Jeremy Newberry, Jeff Ulbrich or Kevan Barlow because Terry Donahue drafted them.
The only reason Rumph should be cut or traded is because the he isn’t one to the 49ers’ five best cornerbacks. If “bias” plays any roll in Nolan’s decision, his reputation as an honest, straight shooter among the players will be ruined.

I think espn is full of you know what, if ‘bias’, not ‘performance’ is the reason, then wouldn’t B. young, J, Ulbrich, D.Smith, S.spencer would have been cut?

I don’t think that we should dump Mike Rumph until we sign a veteran free agent DB. I wish we would of gotten Ty Law, but he wanted too much money. Does anyone know of any good free agent DB’s?
