Center Jeremy Newberry received medical clearance Monday to take part in drills at 49ers training camp when it opens July 28.

Doctor Michael Dillingham, the 49ers’ lead physician, gave the go-ahead after examining Newberry’s surgically repaired right knee Monday morning.

“He said it looked better than he expected,” said Newberry, who plans to practice every morning during camp and possibly in the afternoon, depending on how his knee fares.

“This is the best I’ve felt in many, many years,” said the Antioch native who played three seasons (1995-97) at Cal. Newberry underwent microfracture surgery in December.
