Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports that WR Derrick Hamilton (knee) recently participated in the team’s charity basketball game against the Oakland Raiders.
He sat out all three weeks of the 49ers’ recent organized team activities because of a lingering knee injury, but he seemed to have no problem staggering opponents with crossover dribbles.
He even had an impressive dunk late in the second half. Before tearing an anterior cruciate knee ligament 13 months ago, Hamilton was the No. 3 receiver on the depth chart. During training camp this year, he’ll be fighting for a roster spot.

Did he sit out of OTAs vlountarily or was he held out to do individual work and rehab? If he sat out voluntarily and then played hoops, not good, but if he was held out and played hoops it is a different story. Either way, he needs to step up like he was doing last year before getting hurt or he will be gone.

His ass is cut. 100% sure. This has Rashaun Woods written all over it.
Bryant/Battle/Gilmore/Williams/Maxwell
Thats our WR corps.

Hamilton playing in the Basketball game vs the Raiders last week may be a good sign. It may just mean that after the 3 weeks he spent during OTA’s doing individual workouts he has strengthened his knee enough that he feels better and can run on it now.
I don’t think that he could have played in this Basketball game without someone on the 49er staff knowing about it in advance and approving his doing this.

Jonas Jennings said the Niners won in overtime in his latest article. He also said Manny Lawson was all over the court. Apparently Bajema scored the last shot for the win.

Easy fellas, did nobody see the word CHARITY in charity basketball? In football you have a much more likely hood to be injured than in basketball, cut the man some slack and quit picking at nonsense. This site should close its updates down until regular season, these most recent articles are ridiculous.
Look I understand this is all about every new piece with correlation to the 49ers but this site is becoming for the 49ers team what the paparazzi are to actors and actresses! Quit taking clippings and every piece of gossip and blowing it out of proportion. Curious, how old is the webmaster? If you are over 18, is your target audience 8-14? Come on fellas…......
And if anyone is offended by this, my apologies. Its just some news is cool, these latest articles are ridiculous.

MJ…I report the News, hence the name 49ersNews. I list stuff about the Niners in a good light and a bad light. If you want Kumbiya stories then go to .com.
And the visitors can take the snippet from Barrows and interpret it anyway they’d like. And if I’m targeting 8-14 year olds…which age are you in that range.

MJ, What’s the difference between OTAs where there is NO CONTACT, and a hearty game of basketball?

Wasn’t Hamilton held out of OTAs by the 49ers?

ted…I think it’s just the cool people who get helmets next to their name….honestly I have no idea I think it has to do when they post a comment, if they add an email or not.

dmbfan – So, before training camp even starts, you have our WR plans set huh? Not even going to give a chance to Jason McAddley? Otis Amey? Rasheed Marshall? I think our RB and WR are overstocked and it will be two of the best training camp battles to watch. So I wouldn’t dare try and set our WR or RB corp just yet.

I believe the depth chart I listed is about we should expect. We have Punt/Kick Returners in Williams, Walker, Robinson, Battle, and Hicks. Not all of them will be used for that purpose, but Amey and Marshall arent needed in this offense anymore. The 5th WR on a team is typically a young and upcoming prospect. McAddley is getting paid 650,000 and that’s too much for a 5th spot on the depth chart. Cut.
While Hamilton would fit this mold perfectly, he is just too injured and his time is up. Maxwell has the same dimensions as Hamilton…minus the injuries.
Bryant/Battle/Johnson/Davis as our main targets with Williams, Gilmore, Walker, Gore/Barlow as our secondary targets.
Its what I predict, but its really a matter of opinion. So while you might not dare try to predict the depth chart, theres no harm in humoring myself and others in giving my prediction.
