Typically 3-4 teams field ends (converted 2-gap tackles) in the 300-320 lb range due to the lack of upfront presence of the scheme in order to help free up the linebackers to shoot the gaps. In the offseason I was really hoping for Ma'ake Kemoeatu (and after he went off the market, Sam Adams) which would've prompted Sopoaga to move to left end and Young to right end. Sopoaga is surprisingly a great athlete, he is a terrific tree-climber with quick-twitch muscles, ran a 4.97 and 5.05 40 at the combine (of NFL 3-4 ends, only Seymour and Castillo had faster times) and had a 31 sack season in JUCO which at least shows he makes for a decent pass rusher when the time requires it. I'd love to bring another NT in to be able to utilize Ice as an end and maximize the effectiveness of the line. Our size at NT is ok, but at DE it is below average. You don't want to sign the 5th pick of the draft to a higher contract than the 4th pick, or lower than the 6th. It's this way every year. July is when the first rounders start getting signed.
