Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee is reporting that the 49ers will consider making a bid for former Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the July 13 supplemental draft, personnel director Scot McCloughan said Tuesday.
Last year at this time, Brooks was being mentioned in the same breath as A.J. Hawk—picked fifth overall in last month’s draft—when it came to the nation’s top linebackers. But the junior’s status soon plummeted because of injuries and questions about his maturity.

We can use another good linebacker on our team, even though we have good ones already. Process of elimination for the best. Go niners

we should not give up anything higher than a 5th rounder for brook..Miami give up a 5th last year for m. weight.

I think a third or higher would be fine with me. Brooks’ pro bowl potential is worth the risk.

You Mean Brooks not Barrows, right Mike P. Unless you want a reporter from the sacramento bee on our team.

we wont have to give anything up for him, we’ll get him in the supplemental draft

Nolan keeps demanding top character athletes. But, now we are to believe he will make accomodations for Ahmed Brooks? Would he even start…Nolan seems committed to Derek Smith and Jeff Ulbrich.

Wow these comments makes me think you guys really dont follow football to much, but Brooks is going to be very good but he has been compared to LT alot for both on the field and off the field similarities and I didnt think that was what defines a NOLAN guy. but if he straightens up he will be awsome. And for those of you who dont know anything about him he went to uva so you might be able to find some stats

Actually, when you make a pick in the supplemental draft, you have to give up a pick in the same round in next years draft. For example, if the Niners took Brooks in the 4th round of the supplemental draft, they’d have to give up a 4th rounder next year.
The Niners should be getting some compensatory picks in next year’s draft, so a 3-5th rounder probably won’t hurt.

The only reservation I have is that the guy sounds like a quitter. Supposedly his college coach says he lacks effort… but perhaps a year off has changed that. I say Nolan should only go after him if he’s 100% sure the guy has turned around. You don’t need a quitter playing LB… though Mike Singletary can probably change him too.

Nice with our draft + if we were to pick up Brooks, we’d have the borderline perfect offseason.

I don’t understant the suplemantal draft can someone explain? If we pick him up in the 4th round we lose a forth round next year? what round does it start with? I have never heard of any first round picks being gone because of the sup draft.
