It's not like their entire contracts are guaranteed, so whats the hurt? Antonio Gates wasn't drafted, and there are plenty of other decent NFL players who went undrafted or were late free agent pickups. By increasing the pool of possible players, you possibly increase your probability of finding the "best available" player for your team. Baker was the second receiver behind tres moses. He's big and can jump high but not a good route runner. He was hurt this last year and tres moses is twice the receiver baker is but he is only 5-8.
