I don't see anything wrong with signing free agents to try them out during training camp and preseason. It's not like their entire contracts are guaranteed, so whats the hurt? Antonio Gates wasn't drafted, and there are plenty of other decent NFL players who went undrafted or were late free agent pickups.

By increasing the pool of possible players, you possibly increase your probability of finding the "best available" player for your team.

In a recent interview Mike Nolan was asked how many more wide receivers will the 49ers sign before the start of training camp, and he replied, " Well we're going to get a large pool of them, just like American Idol except we're going to call it American Receiver and try them out and you the fan will vote them off one by one until only 6 remain for the final cut. Televising the show will bring in much needed money to start building a new stadium." ....Come on Nolan we have a million receivers on the team PLEASE do not sign any more AND THAT GOES FOR TIGHT END TOO!

I also go to Rutgers. Baker was the second receiver behind tres moses. He's big and can jump high but not a good route runner. He was hurt this last year and tres moses is twice the receiver baker is but he is only 5-8. I would have to say hes not making the roster

commenting on the TE(scroll up) we just signed, he looks a little raw..as in he needs more practice(don't know nothing about his blocking), but with the right coaching..he could give EJ a run for his money...then again..if EJ's healty..naw

Malone has a huge leg and can boom kicks, plus he's great at getting them in the corner. He should have a great chance of overtaking Andy Lee.
