Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers rejected a trade with the Denver Broncos that involved Broncos WR Ashley Lelie. The Broncos were shopping Lelie for a second-round pick. 49ers vice president of player personnel Scot McCloughan said,
“He does have some talent. He’s more of a vertical guy, outside the numbers, and can stretch the field, but we had some issues with other things. (I’m) not saying he wouldn’t fit in, but … what kind of football player are we going to have when it’s said and done?”
He said the team would be interested if the Broncos’ asking price drops dramatically.

Good move niners. Stay away from Lelie unless the price is cheap. He hasn’t done a thing in this league. I could see maybe for a 3rd round pick or for a 4th I’d do it. 2nd is way too expensive. I don’t understand teams like Denver and GB asking for these outrageous picks for their WR’s when all we could get was a 3rd rounder for the best receiver in the game a few years ago…

The deal on the Packer’s desk at this point is probably a package deal including the 49ers 22nd pick and some late round pick that can move up if walker performs for walker and a green bay pick in the 3rd or 4th round..

Mortenson said the packers were expecting first round compensation for walker. I can’t imagine this to be true, but I know a major reason for rejecting the 49ers 2nd next year was because they wanted a pick this year.
I have to imagine that immedietly after the broncos 9ers deal that the broncos offered the new pick for walker, meaning green bay has probably already rejected it.

He held out for 2 weeks, then came back only to have his worst case scenario happen. Green Bay never even talked about renegotiating his contract, if you ask me they got what they deserved, a player who doesn’t want to play for them.
This is not a TO situation, please don’t compare the two it is ridiculous. TO was getting paid handsomly and was a pain to his teammates and coaches..

I’m not a big TO fan but he’s getting a little bit of a raw deal. He was never unhappy w/his deal w/the Eagels—he was unhappy knowing that he would never see the money coming in the third year. At one point he said guarantee me that you keep me on the roster for that year and I got no problems.
As for javon Walker—-he is no TO—-attitude wise. The guy is a team player—he wanted a contract to be on par w/his abilities—-and to secure his future. What happens? Brett Favre opens his mouth and all of a sudden Walker is a bad guy. Walker went in to camp on time—-and got hurt first game—just what he was scared of. Think about this for Walker. What if Favre doesnt come back—and he had aaron rodgers throwing to him—he’ll never put up the numbers that he did in his pro bowl year. And consequently won’t get that huge pay day he was looking for. Favre gave him the shaft twice.
