Never thought I’d ever thank the Packers. But from the reports that the Packers turned down the Broncos offer to move up to #5 in the draft are true. Then I have to say Thank You, Green Bay.
Now if it stays this way and the 49ers land Vernon Davis at 6. I think all the Vernon Davis fans need to send McCarthy some flowers or some mylar balloons, or maybe them signing Saleem Rasheed is thanks enough.
The Rocky Mountain News reports the Green Bay Packers turned down the Denver Broncos’ offer of two first-round draft picks for the Packers’ selection at number five.

I guess thats cool, but what if the packers take Vernon Davis. Maybe they will to keep Brett there. I dunno, but its a possibility

They need help on defense, not to mention they have Bubba Franks already at TE. And if they somehow do draft Davis, then take Hawk or Huff at 6. Yeah I’d be a little bummed by missing out on Davis, but if he is drafted before 6, not much you can do about it.

the Broncos have 2 first round picks?

Andrew…no this was before the Niners traded with the Broncos. I’ve heard the Broncos tried trading up with 2 other teams besides the Packers, but were turned down on all three. Thus setting up the trade with the Niners/Broncos.

Had. They had 2 because they traded out of the 1st round last year, then they got up to 15 by packaging some of their picks and trading them to atlanta.

I’m glad Denver was turned down but I will personally send a thank you gift to the Packers and McCarthy if we get J.Walker for a late rd pick!

For those feeling it is not possible for GB to Davis due to Franks. What about the Niners with E. Johnson, same exact situation. If McCarthy really is a West Coast guy (which was not evident while he was with the Niners) then VD would fit well into his plans.

Bating the Niners to move up????
Rotowire.com
Update: Davis’ draft stock has shot up to the point that there is talk that the Jets are considering him with the number four pick overall in this month’s draft, Newsday reports.
Recommendation: Some would consider that a reach, but if the Jets don’t bite, look for the 49ers (at pick #6) to grab Davis, considered a superior pass-catcher with off the chart athleticism and measurables

I wouldnt say thank you cuz they want Vernon davis!

Sergio…did you not see this in the post:
“Now if it stays this way and the 49ers land Vernon Davis at 6.”
See that IF part. Also the article linked says they would make a run at Davis if Arrington is a Packer. Without Arrington they still draft Hawk. And again if Davis goes before 6. (not a whole lot the Niners can do) then they either trade down, or draft Hawk or Huff. I really want Davis, but in the end the Niners are in a win-win situation.

if GB lands Davis, we could take Hawk or Williams, and thats amazing too…

Ummm… Stoney – There’s a slight difference between us getting Vernon Davis w/Eric Johnson and his contract than the Packers getting Vernon Davis w/Bubba Franks and his 28 Million dollar contract

Oh my bad i missed that…

This is for all you who say we don’t need V Davis because of EJ, and GB would draft VD despite B Franks.
The name of the game is consistency. Eric Johnson has not been able to finish 1 complete season. He has only played in 16 games twice (2001 and 2004)and in both occasions he missed 2 starts. In 2002 he appered in 12 games and misses 2 starts in those 12 games.
So
Eric Johnson
G GS
44 38
Games missed start
42
Bubba only once has not played in all 16 games. And only once missed more then 3 starts. (both were this year)
