Forget about Walker for now…Davis and Lawson (fingers crossed) would be two great young playmakers on both sides of the ball.
41 mins after the fact.Vin said:
Yeah, Lawson/Carpenter would be nice at 22nd. But remember, this could mean that Nolan is preparing to move farther down with the #6 pick.
In any case, I hope they take VD and then a LB or CB with that second pick. J.Joseph (S.Carolina) seems to a good prospect that should be available at that pick. A lot of teams supposedly have him climbing up the boards.
41 mins after the fact.Mike C. said:
According to the Draft Chart the trade is a wash. The #22 pick is worth 780 points, and the 2nd and 3rd round picks that SF gave up equal 780 points.
48 mins after the fact.zing said:
The only way we better be trading the 6th pick is to move to somewhere around 9-11 where we could still get Davis and another pick in the 2nd or 3rd…I don’t want to see another trade-down fiasco like the one that ended up getting us Woods….or I mean Sammie Davis
51 mins after the fact.GMONEY said:
Great trade but I bet that second rounder Denver got is going to get Javon Walker. Forget OLB in the first round, we need that cover corner. Maybe a Jimmy Williams or that other gur Cromertie or whatever will fall. Thats what I am talking about.

We could still make a move for Walker, but we may move down to the 7-11 range, pick up another 2nd rounder, draft Huff, Lawson, and M.Lewis or Pope. I love V.Davis but I would be just as happy if that happened.

Ok, now 48ers lets get Davis and Lawson and kick some butt this season. Good job coach.
2 hours after the fact.stoney said:
I agree with most everyones perception this seal the deal on any chance of getting Walker. Denver will use the 3rd rounder on Walker and get a player only 15 slots later. Which will be a TE if they do not use their other 1st rounder on that position. Good move Denver, okay move 9ers. With the hole this team has we just gave up an opportunity potential address an need area without the additional player, potentially Walker. It is tough to sit an wait between pick 22 and pick 84. Watching talent getting snatched up. VD, Bing, J. Walker and either Mcintosh or Alston. That would have made sweet 1st day.

1st Rd Selection for Walker… NOT GONNA HAPPEN! When T.O. was disgruntled on our team, all we could get was a 3rd round pick! J. Walker is NOT in a class w/TO… IMO the Packers WILL unload Walker (most likely before the draft) for a 3rd at the highest, or package him with picks in this draft!
2 hours after the fact.theraven said:
I really am disappointed by this. I realize the benefit of adding two 1st rounders to the team. Still, our teams overall talent level is so low that we need more 1st day picks, not less. Especially in a draft with deep a 1st day talent levels at need positions like Safety, OLB, and TE.
Obviously Nolan and crew moved up with a couple of specific players in mind, like Lawson or a top TE/Safety if they take Huff at #6 instead of Davis.

3 hours after the fact.I trust Nolan to do what’s right. He wouldn’t trade for JW if he was going to be a cancer. ESPN.com had a column about character. Scot McWhatever gave his opinion when it came to character vs talent. The article also pointed out that the only time you want to pick up talent over character is when your team has the veterans and foundation to be able to endure. The Niners are to young to take that risk. Therefore, if Nolan is willing to take on Walker, I am for it. Just like frilly toothpicks.

I hope Nolan realizes that now that we have 2 first round picks, we have the ability to draft Vernon Davis and still get an excellent OLB. We do not need Mario Williams or AJ Hawk at #6 now, as the draft is deep at defense. We need VD to help us move the chains. Remember Arizona last year? (The Cardinals…) The defense was awesome with 2 forced fumbles but the offense could not move the chains. We need VD to help us roll our way to the playoffs and re-establish ourselves as the #1 team in our division! (One step at a time….......VD is Step #1.)

VD is a beast who happens to be a TE, can block, can play the role of a reciever, and will put a “Security Blanket” over Alex Smith. The man can turn a small dump off pass into a huge play and…..yep…he runs the 40 quicker than a grip of recievers! The Duke is by far the most talented player in the draft second to maybe Bush, hands down you draft the man! With the second pick I say we go defense by getting an OLB. Personally, I am hoping for Manny Lawson to be our pick at 22. Then recently I also heard we are trying to trade our second round pick from next year for Javon Walker…..anyone hear that? That would be so freakin’ awesome

I have to admit I think the offense needs more help than the D. Think about all the games last year when we had the ball for a third of the clock or less. There is no way you get an accurate feel for the quality of the defense when they have to play that much. We need an offensive play-maker. Even if we don’t win 10 games this year, we need to start to balance that time of possesion to get a true read on our defense.
19 hours after the fact.Dagan said:
Vernon Davis and Antonio Cromartie are the two guys I would pick. Two biggest area needs are a playmaker and a DB. IF not I would like to see Vernon Davis and Lendale White. White and Gore would be a sick 1-2 punch with the improved o-line. I’m jacked for next season.
21 hours after the fact.Ed said:
VD is a monster and that’s a given fact. Will he be able to help the offense move the chain? I’m sure he will. Will he be able to get the ball to make an immediate impact? That is something you have to question if Alex Smith is ready to take it to the next level. Pick the best TE right now in the league that made a tremendous impact in the game without a good QB? Exactly that’s my point. VD would be a great threat for the Niners but losing Carter and Peterson are big holes to fill, that’s why I’d like them to take a leader, like A.J. Hawk, Mario Williams or Michael Huff. People offense may win us games, but Defense will lead us to become a championship caliber team.

22 hours after the fact.Nick said:
I wouldn’t spend another first round selection on a DB, DBs are only as good as the pass rush. Better to pick up some veteren minimums and draft a linebacker or defensive lineman, or trade the pick for an nfl veteren. Or wait till other players start getting cut in June and pick up a db or 2 there.

After looking up and down the board, it seems that it’ll be unlikely we’d end up with Lawson or Greenway @ 22. If we want one of those two guys (which are arguably the 2nd and third best linebackers in the draft), we’ll either have to move up from 22nd, pray they fall there, or move down from #6.
A move down from #6 will put the nail in the coffin for VD supporters, as he will probably not last past that point (whoever we’d trading #6 to will probably take VD), so that leaves defense. Sure, we have quite a bit of talent, but we’re short in depth… especially at LB now. Don’t be surprised if Hawk is gone at #6, Nolan trades down to 10-15 and gets Greenway… and then gets Carpenter, Sims or Lawson(though unlikely) with #22.

If that were the case, I’d definately trade down some from #6 and take him with the 10-15 picks. Trading down that far is risky as it is (in my opinion), but it’s certainly possible. Most teams are afraid to take TE’s that high (#6) in the draft.

Yes, he is a reach but I dont think there looking in drafting him so high because like they said they brought in Darnell Bing and he’s a possible 2 rounder.
Comment by Raymond Pajas — April 3, 2006 @ 6:41 am
Taking him at #6 would be too high for him. Maybe trading our #6 to the broncos for their #15 and #22..then trading our #22 and our second round pick (#37) for another top 15 pick..thats the only way i see us getting him in the draft.. why draft #6 and #37 when you can get two top 15 picks..we can get an elite defensive player (greenway) and a chad jackson or a TE

I say take Davis at 6 unless AJ Hawk or Mario Williams are there (unlikely). They are rated higher and fill a need. At 22 we can hope for Ngota or Bunkley. John Clayton on ESPN is saying we are looking at CB with our 22. I think there we can see what we can get @ 6, hard to predict what will be available at 22.

Are the stupid seacock fans trying to be golden? FIVE SUPER BOWL WINS
We are undefeated in Super Bowls and were the first to reach five. Have you guys even won one? We have several former players in the hall of fame that are undoubtedly the best that ever played the game. Each of these players still own records that are unbeaten. What about the only icon you guys had was Largent. And you jackasses wanna compare the ugly ass birds, that don’t even exist by the way, to a dynasty just because you went to the Super Bowl. At least, if you guys had won the Super Bowl, you would have bragging rights. That’s like having the opportunity to screw a hot chick and pre-ejaculating. Close, but no cigar. Damn Seacocks you pulled an American Pie in the Super Bowl. Ha ha. Stock up on the Viagra cuz you are about to go limp. You guys ain’t shit and will never compare to us. EVER! Do some homework before you talk shit about a real team!
