Greatest game and play ever in my opinion. With all the factors in there (Packer’s streak over the Niners, Reggie White, etc) and the back-and-forth way the game played, it was just amazing. I was twelve when it happened, and wept uncontrollably out of sheer joy. I still watch the videotape of this game ever year on Jan. 3rd to commemorate its glory. Not kidding.

A couple of observations:
1) JJ Stokes was an integral part of that drive. That is just amazing!
2) Rice’s fumble
Oh my word! What a catastrophe…
3) Young’s pass with 10 seconds left should have been intercepted. What was he thinking? That next pass would never have happened, and Steve’s legacy would have been significantly altered.

well they say baseball is a game of inches. Apply that one to football, the slightest changes make the biggest ones.

I remember Antonio Freeman doing the “V” sign for victory just before this drive. One of the greatest Niner’s moments.

yeah tht game was great, for playoff games however i think the best one was when we came a back to beat the guants from 38-14 and won 39-38. That game was more authentic, we did kind of get lucky against the packers, if there was reveiew, im sorry we would of lost.

Epic cut! I remember that game so well. How could Rice fumble on his only catch. Jeez. T.O. was crying like a school girl in a confessional! Steve Young’s last pass was a thing of beauty, threading two defenders with a third on his way. Unbelievable. And agreed, the Giants/Niners Playoff comeback win was the best game EVER!

That play changed the coaching landscape in the NFC, that would be the last game Holmgren would coach the Pack. Thank goodness the Pack’s safeties didn’t know how to play cover 2. I wonder what TO thinks when he see’s that highlight, I know how I feel. That was a special time cuz i was sick and tired of GB, but the Giants game is a close 2nd, maybe Garcia’s best game in my eyes. What happened 2 u TO????

I recall that game too. That’s when I started liking TO. What was amazing to me he held on the ball when he got hit hard. Too bad TO end up having a bad attitude. Great football player.

Terrell Owens, back when he played for the love of the game.
And if there was ever a case for Montana being better than Young, this drive proves it. Young’s mismanagement of the clock and that horrible throw before the Catch II were two things Montana would rarely (if ever) do on such a big drive. Still, I give credit to Steve for still being a great player and helping us win this game vs. the Packers.

I have several comments:
1. I have the entire game on tape and one thing you don’t see in this clip is the kick off return the packers had to end the game…the dude got out to about midfield…scares the shit out of me every time I watch it.
2. I love how Madded says “You say it’s about the money? I say bologna” Lol if he only knew. That is rather ironic.
3. That run after the catch by Marc Edwards was freakin incredible…just incrediblt…Leroy Butler is no slouch.

I wonder what the Notre Dame hammerhead Marc Edwards is up to right now?...I hated it when we lost him.

Oh, just to toss in, the Rice fumbled that the refs blew was sweet vengeance from the previous two encounters.

The greatest moment in my 49er past. I cried for joy as well. I just had so much resentment towards Green Bay, finally beating them. Great stuff. Now i kinda like Favre for his play, I could not look past it when our teams were both good but now I can.

Let’s just say that Steve Young saved Terrel Owen’s career on that pass. We all know how T.O. had played that game. Had the 49ers lost he would have been the one to blame. Sure Jerry Rice fumbled but your not seriously going to blame Jerry Rice are you. If you ask me he could have told the ref that he scored and they would have given him the touchdown. Who said that pass should have been intercepted? Seriously? That pass should have been intercepted? There was a breakdown in the coverage and Steve Young saw that and threw a perfect strike. Thus saving T.O.’s career and once again proving that he is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. In my opinion and the opinion of the stat sheets he is the best.
