Workout Update: Matt Douthett, of the Indiana Statesman, reports Indiana State TE Jamie Petrowski recently had a successful workout for scouts from the San Francisco 49ers doing position drills and techniques for tight ends as well as catching passes. Petrowski said the biggest weakness he had was running a dig route, which is a route run across the middle of the field.——
The 49ers plan on having as many as 20 college prospects in for visits at their Santa Clara team headquarters in the weeks leading to the NFL draft, and we have confirmed that Iowa linebacker Chad Greenway – who is high on San Francisco’s list of draft prospects – has a visit scheduled with the team, which already has met with USC’s Darnell Bing.

if we took greenway it wouldnt be until the mid teens, meaning we would have to trade down.

He would be a giant reach (and an awful pick) at #6 but it could be an indication the Niners are looking to trade down and possibly pick him late in the 1st round.

Yes, he is a reach but I dont think there looking in drafting him so high because like they said they brought in Darnell Bing and he’s a possible 2 rounder.

Taking him at #6 would be too high for him. Maybe trading our #6 to the broncos for their #15 and #22..then trading our #22 and our second round pick (#37) for another top 15 pick..thats the only way i see us getting him in the draft.. why draft #6 and #37 when you can get two top 15 picks..we can get an elite defensive player (greenway) and a chad jackson or a TE

I like trading down for an extra 1st day pick and then taking someone like Greenway. But trading back up into the 1st wouldn’t be the greatest idea. What we need now is a talent infusion at all positions, that means the more picks the better.

but thats the whole point..we need immediate impact players..we have enough money for whomevers left in free agency and have enough money to pay for high draft picks.. since we dont have general manager, i think its harder for us to get in touch with the elite free agents available.. we can over pay for woodson and still have enough money to make a run for arrington, jamie sharper, grady jackson…or even trade draft picks and signing javon walker to a new deal.. more draft picks means more waiting
42 mins after the fact.(players to develop within 2 yrs).. im that excited for another 4-12 season.

Just imagine… trading down (w/broncos would be great) and being able to pick up Greenway (LB), Tye Hill / J. Williams (CB), and M. Lewis (TE)! All in just the first 3 picks. That to me would be a major boost to our entire team… Offense + Defensive. I wouldn’t be upset w/that at all!

Unless Super Mario or Hawk falls to us at #6, we should trade down and grab a guy like Greenway. We could be possibly trade down a couple of times in the first round and still come away with a solid 1st rounder and two additional day one picks! Let’s just hope that Nolan and McCloughan don’t pull a “Donahue” and come out with a R. Woods type in the 1st.

stop the bullshit with the trading i hate whenever we trade because look who we picked up the last time we traded our first pick RASHUAN WOODS if we had to have another guy like that i would give up on looking forward to the draft we sould stay at 6 and look for VD,AJ or super mario

Hey ding dong can you read….I mentioned Woods. Years ago we traded back all the time…while winning Super Bowls

I am in for the trade down perspective as long as we get good value in picks and not as a couple of years back when we trade down from #16 to like #29 for a losy late 2. rounder and a 4 rounder.
My best guess for a trade down if Vince Young falls to us at #6 would Vikings. They do need a young QB to groom, have a lot of picks in this draft and is expected to drafting late next year. At #17 we properly would take OLB Lawson (Patriots is high on him at #21) and then a safety and TE in the 2. round.
Btw we are not to pick Ernie Sims unless we trasfering him to safety. He is way to small to be a 3-4 OLB.

No matter who they draft, they need our support. We are all 49er fans after all. However, I think we should also support SALEEM RASHEED. Saleem is a great player and there is no need to talk of replacing him with Ernie Sims. Saleem wears a size 46 jock and it smelled nice after he signed it with a Sharpie. Yes, that device that the immature, classless Terrell Owens used. But this was for a good cause.
Anyway, I only hope that the 49ers continue to draft wonderful people like Saleem Rasheed.

We should never trade down because Hawk, Huff, Mario are all SURE THINGS, heck even Mel Kiper and the rest of the experts say so. Just think how great it would be if anyone of these SURE THINGS turns out like all the other players that came before them. If we had guys like Courtney Brown, Peter Warrick, Ron Dayne, Andre Carter, Robert Gallery, Kellen Winslow, Ryan Leaf, Curtis Enis, Tim Couch, and Derrick Alexander we would be in the Super Bowl every year
Its way smarter to invest everything into a limited number of SURE THINGS as oppoesed to spreading the risk with lesser players. Everyone knows guys drafted later than the first round never amount to anything.

Big ups for yourself Matt. Hey Adman, I hope you’re reading this in english and not in “dingbat”....I don’t think anyone can do a better job of explaining why trading down, can be the right thing at the right time!
