It is being rumored that the Atlanta Falcons are showing interest in RT Kwame Harris. This according to Len Pasquerelli. Per our sources, they have not yet come to the 49ers in regards to acquiring Harris, but Pasquerelli knows people in the Falcon organization so there is some validity to the rumors.
Niners looking at Raonall Smith

They should cut their losses with Harris and Move Jennings to the right side and pick up Ferguson to play LT.

Thats Crazy… Anyone who thinks that we should us our first round pick on Ferguson must not want a playmaker on this team… Ferguson will be a great O Lineman for years to come, but weve just added Allan to the line and we have great young talent
What we need is a playmaker on Offense or Defense and Ferguson is not it!

So this is actually 2 seperate rumors. The falcons might want Harris, and the 49ers are interested in Smith? If that’s the case, why not trade Harris for a 4th and then package it for Javon Walker. Who cares about Smith, nothing but depth for the LB’s there. Not a starter

Smith has a ton of potential as well. He just never had a supporting cast in Minnesota. You have to remember, up until last year, defense was an afterthought in Minnesota.
Smith would at great depth, and could easily challenge for a starting role. He has just as much potential as Moore… if not more.
As for trading Harris away: it just wont happen. It’ll be difficult to get ‘Brick to fall to #6 as it is, and Nolan knows this. You don’t empty out a starting spot without some kind of a plan to fill it back in. There aren’t very many offensive linement left in FA… and the OT pool at the top of the draft is very thin.
4 hours after the fact.Erickson said:
Thing is I don’t think Harris has that starting spot. I think it will go to Snyder. But I agree I don’t see this trade happening. With the addition of Allen. The line is pretty well set, and has for once some nice depth.
4 hours after the fact.BillyJoeJimBob said:
I agree that Snyder is probably going to beat out Harris at right tackle. If the Falcons want Harris, let them have him. Anyone could get called for four false starts and get beat by second rate defensive lineman like Harris has at half the price.

If Nolan gets rid of Harris, I’ll be very happy. If he ends up getting rid of Harris and later Barlow I would donate my kidney to him if he needed it.
4 hours after the fact.greg said:
harris is a waste of space. snyder can’t be worse than him. won’t get much for him, but anything is better than having a guy that single-handedly costs you scoring drives with his untimely penalties. (see titans game. holding on a 77 yard td run away from the play)
4 hours after the fact.adman said:
i hope we trade him we would only get more depth from it (harris has no depth)

The Niners in the past 8 years has been very thin at OL. Tha is whay you get guys off the street like Clement last year letting the QB get blasted from the backside. With the injury history the team has had don’t thin out the line. 2006 OL should be:
LT - Jones
LG - Allen
C – Heitmann
RG - Bass
RT - Snyder
Depth – Newberry, Harris, Etes & mid round draft pick
Get whatever depth possible at LB and let training camp weed them out.

I have put a call into Coach Nolan to see if he needs a kidney. I will get back with you when I know more.

hey stoney, you forgot Smiley who’ll prolly play RG, placing Bass as more depth….
I say trade Harris. Get what you can get.

Are you guys kidding me….Jones?? You mean Jennings?? It will be like this in o6
9 hours after the fact.LF-Jennings
LG-Allen
C-Newberry (if he gets injured then Bass)
RG-Smiley
RT-Snyder
That whole left side is amazing, even if Bass comes in and starts, that kid has amazing stuff. Jennings should have made the pro bowl a three years ago. I dont think anyone sees out good our O-line is going to be next year

Here is what my crystal ball said:
LT - Sleepy
LG - Bashful
C – Doc
RG - Grumpy
RT - Dopey
RT - Sneezy
1st round draft pick – Snow White (cheerleader)

I can’t wait to go to this site and see the headline “Kevin Barlow Traded” to some stupid a$$ team.
10 hours after the fact.Darrel said:
Barlow will surprise this year because he wont have to search 4 holes. Barlow will be a good changeup for Gore or Hicks, Barlow will be big this year for sure.
10 hours after the fact.BillyJoeJimBob said:
Barlow will be fine this year. He didn’t just forget how to run these last two years. The o-line sucked and Mike McCarthy is an idiot and didn’t know how to utilize his skills to run him. Barlow is not a hit the hole type of back, he’s a back that needs to get outside on sweeps and counters. Norv Turner does have a clue and will know how to utilize him. With all that being said, they still may trade him or cut his ass.
11 hours after the fact.BillyJoeJimBob said:
ANd another thing, Barlow had a 60 yard td reception and a 70 yard td run called back last year due to that quality individual known as Kwame Harris.

nothing slips your mind does it billyjoejimbob.
13 hours after the fact.Matt said:
Yeah you have a good point about that 70yd td run that was called back. That would have knocked Barlows avg well above 3.4…

Packers | Team to no longer in the running to sign R. Smith

Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers are no longer in the running to sign free agent LB Raonall Smith (Vikings).
So now its an NFC West battle. Come on 49ers

It is kind of crazy to get rid of Harris because of some penalties. I sure didn’t like him starting last year, but he is a very good backup and still might develop into a good starter – he’s only 23, 24 yo. If you get rid of Harris you’re likely do get a lot worse at backup. Anthony Clement, anyone?
1 day after the fact.John said:
If we can trade Harris for a first day draft pick then go for it. I suspect he will lose his starting job to Adam Snyder anyway.
As for the debate on drafting Ferguson or AJ Hawk:
Listen, I would love to have a badass linebacker to replace Julian Peterson. But the fact is that decent to great linebackers can be had in free agency. If Ferguson is the next Orlando Pace, how often do you get a shot at a player like that? Its great that the 49ers signed Larry Allen but he is a short term fix (2 yr contract, the end of which he will have played 14 seasons). If our coaching staff is sure that Ferguson will be the next Orlando pace then we simply must draft him.
Jennings, Allen, Newberry, Smiley, Ferguson
with Hietman the center if newberry goes down, and Synder the top backup at OT.
If dabrickshaw is off the board at #6 and AJ hawk is still around then we take Aj hawk.
