Defensive back Michael Huff – who has moved into consideration to be picked by the Niners with their No. 6 overall selection in the first round – continued to shine in offseason workouts, running his 20-yard shuttle in 3.96 and managed a 6.84 in the three-cone drill.
He also participated in secondary drills and looked fluid working out at both safety and cornerback.
“With the positional drills at the combine and my Pro Day, people will be able to tell whether I can play corner or not,” Huff said confidently.
The 49ers are looking at Huff at corner, but he could easily slip into their starting lineup at free safety, too, since that is what he played last season at Texas.

Huff is actually my favorite prospect. I also like AJ Hawk, but even with the recent departures of Carter and Peterson, the LB group is still pretty strong (though it lacks a bit of depth). This is why I think Huff would be able to contribute immediately. With the release of Plummer, and the corners still a bit of a question mark, he would be able to help out there… if not as a starter, then as a nickel back.
Rumph thrives when he plays the slot guy, so having a guy like Huff, who can play the outside guy as well as anyone, would bolster this team’s third down package. With the talent (or lack thereof) in the Niner’s defense, he could easily become a starter in the opening weeks…
Mike Adams is not a lock at FS, and neither is Rumph at corner OR FS.

I wouldn’t mind Huff but not at #6. I believe the team could still trade down a bit and pick him up. My choices in this order are 1. Davis 2. Hawk 3. Williams 4. Huff

If the 49ers we’re going to draft V.Davis they would have released johnson by now, why would they pay him and draft an instant starter? I think they are looking at Hawk, Huff, or trade.

Because Johnson is under contract for one more year. No reason to release Johnson. I see them running lots of 2 TE sets, with the TE’s being Davis & Johnson. If you release Johnson, and draft Davis. You still have crap for your other TE’s.

I think Hawk and Super Mario will be gone by #6, VD is the man if we stay put….I agree we could likely get Huff at #10 or so if we trade down. What do you guys think about trading up and giving the 3rd or 4th that we got for Lloyd to get Williams or Hawk….not likely, but you never know!

I would deffinitley be excited if we picked michael huff, and think he should be a corner. As long as we get either Huff, Hawk, or VD..

i don’t like huff at #6. he’s not a playmaker (only 4 INTs as a four year starter! very lame). maybe if we trade down but if we stay at #6 then let’s take someone with playmaking ability, I’m hoping for 1)super mario 2) hawk or 3) davis. if none of them are around trade back and then maybe take huff. the 4 INTs in four years for a very good team really bothers me, anyone else?

If 4 int’s in 4 years is the case, then I’d pass on him at #6. Nothing improves your DB’s more than having a pass rush….trading down and getting Broderick Bunkley as a DE in the 3-4 might be a good call. B.Y. is not getting any younger….and if Bunkley’s not around Chad Greenway would be solid as a OLB. I think both could be around in the teen picks.

This is one of the deepest TE classes in years. Davis has the potential to be a superstar, but the Niners could pick up a very good TE in the second round. I think they will go with Huff, and possibly pick up Fasano (Notre Dame) in the second round.

We cant let VD slip 2 ARI or STL, besides a 2 TE package sounds enticing. Antonio Gates II
