The Packers opened their offseason workout program this week, but Walker was missing in action. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that Walker has hired a real-estate agent and will have his home up for sale very soon.
Walker has made it clear he has no desire to ever play for the Packers again. He would not consider returning no matter what.
“If I had to go back there, I’d retire,” Walker told ESPN.com’s Michael Smith. “I don’t have to play. I really have no interest in being in a Green Bay Packers uniform or playing for Green Bay again.”
However the Packers have denied his trade request, stating that Walker is still under contract, and they expect him to honor that contract.
ESPN is reporting that because Walker is damaged goods, the Packers might be fortunate to get even a mid- to late-round pick in return.
So Nolan regardless of what Green Bay says about not trading Walker, call them up and offer the 3rd from the Redskins or maybe a 4th rounder and make a trade for Walker. Take a risk. They have nothing to lose. A trio of Bryant, Walker, & Battle doesn’t look all that bad.

that’s true. Hell I was all for giving up the Skins 3rd and making an offer to Burleson.

Yea, no chance in hell that we’ll see Walker in a niner uniform. Apparently talent prevents you from being a “nolan” type of player.

The fact the Walker is making a “stink” ousts him immediately….is Burleson still available? If we can get someone of his caliber, then we can focus on “D” in the draft….we all know that 1st round WR’s are not sure things!

Everyone rags on Nolan about not making moves or criticizing his philosophy. While they may not win now, their team has quite a bit of potential.
Talent is not what prevents you from being a “Nolan” type player, but rather, its your attitude. Jevon Walker’s antics the last two years haven’t been far off from what T.O. has done. Why would anyone want that back?

nolan is trying to develop others wr’s and giving them a shot also we already have too many wr’s anyway. and to get jw you will be investing money into an injuried player and that is not in the cards ask jp .

I would love to see this happen, it would be bad ass. Hell we can give them the picks we got for Lloyd. Yes he did start something last year but, once they told him “we will work on the contract if you come in” he returned. The problem was they didn’t work out his contract and they didn’t help him out at all. Then he got injured and they left him there to rott for a year. THEN expect him to be ok and come back to the team. He wants out because they turned their backs on him.
I would give him a 2nd chance, the did to A Bryant, might as well try with Walker.

It seems like since the Walt Harris pick-up the 49ers dropped off the FA market. All the news that I have heard or been getting is solely focused on the draft. Are the 9ers even still looking at the FA board anymore?

i agree with that we have too be careful not to pick the wrong guy and dump alot of cash into a bad situation. i think nolan is a secret keeper we’ll wake and san fran signed a person by the end of the week, we’ll talk about it then start trash talking about the person soon or later fans are never satisfied . that why i’m proud to be one

i’m all for trading a 3rd to get either walker or burleson… i think a 3rd round pick is a steal for either of those receivers. knowing this 49ers front office, however, they value their draft picks so highly, i doubt they would ever part with a pick if they weren’t getting another in return…
2 hours after the fact.Jesse said:
Walker’s salary for this year is $650,000. considering how well he has played for the Packers before he was injured, he is extremely underpaid. He came back and played even when his overpaid quarterback ragged on him. He more than warrants a 3rd or 4th round pick. Signing Bryant is riskier than trading for Walker.

I think it would be sweet in Walker came here to SF. I doubt we’ll get him because we are cheap, and dont like getting good players it seems like, but yeah i would lik eto have Walker on this team. Alex Smith would have a lot of good targets with him, bryant, battle, eric johnson, and maybe even VD if we draft him..

If the packers allow a trade for a 3rd rounder the niners should jump on it. It is taking just as much of a risk as taking a player in the 3rd .

I don’t see how anyone could even come close to comparing Javon Walker to TO? When Clinton Portis wanted out of Denver because he outplayed his rookie contract no one really made that big of a stink about it. Javon Walker has essentially done the same thing.
Do you compare Clinton Portis to TO?
The fact of the matter is Walker felt like he outplayed his rookie contract in the same way that Clinton Portis felt like he outplayed his rookie contract. Walker wanted to hold out in a way of saying that something should be done about it, and the Packers refused. Farve calls out Walker for holding out, and on a team like GB, Farve simply has too much pull/say. Walker comes back in to show his good nature, and he ends up getting seriously injured in his first game of the season.
If I were Walker I would be pissed off too. Almost anyone would be in that situation. The guy is out there sacrificing his body and career on every play and he’s still playing for his rookie contract that was scheduled to pay him $7.5 mil over 5 years.
For a guy that nearly put up probowl numbers in his 2004 he’s getting paid peanuts. Most players of his caliber are getting paid atleast $5 mil a year. The guy simply wanted to redo his contract that was a grossly disproportionate to his level of play.
He’s going into the final year of his deal, and if the Packers are smart they will try to deal him. It’s better for them to try and get some kind of value out of him now, because at the end of the season he won’t have any trade value.
If he’s availible for trade I’d be up for giving a 3rd or 4th rounder for him, depending on how doctors feel his rehab is coming along.
It also could be that the Packers are holding off on his trade request for now. The guy tore his ACL last September. If they wait until closer to draft time, or even after the draft, they will be able to have him work out for teams, thus increasing his trade value.
3 hours after the fact.KP said:
Agree 100% Dave. I’m sure there are concerns around the league regarding his rehab so I’m assuming that this has to do with the apparnet lack of interest. I also believe that any team that trades for him is going to have to work out a long term contract…that might end up proving to be difficult considering his injury.
I’d like to have Javon on this team for a 3 or 4, but I wouldn’t sign him to any extension (which he ofcourse wants) without a definite idea of his rehab.

Walker for a third rounder would be the new “trade of the year” i saw some of these numnuts compared his situation to my main man TO’S
4 hours after the fact.but its totally different…hines ward held out for a contract but who wouldnt want him on this team…these guys put their body and life on the line and deserve to be paid….especially 6’3 210 pound guys who go over the middle when roy williams is waiting for you….i wish we could get this guy….he would be the best receiver we could get free agency or draft

So… what happened to Rashaun Woods again? What about Rice? IS he coming home to retire this year or is he too busy dancing?
4 hours after the fact.BurlyD_83 said:
IMO trading a pick for Javon Walker would not be a great idea! Here are my reasons…
1.) He had a huge injury… Why on earth would we want to trade a draft pick for an injured player who is not even an “elite” player.
2.) He had 1 good year, that’s it, that doesn’t make him great, that doesn’t give him an excuse to threaten to retire… That’s Crap – I do not want someone like that on our team… What happens when we give him a good paying contract and he feels the next year the he “Outperformed” his contract again… What then, let him whine and cry about being underpaid!
Yes, I do believe you can compare him to T.O., his situation is not identical, but regardless it splits apart the looker room and creates tension and problems… He has 1 year left and he’s still young, if he really had a passion for the game, he would suck it up, play one more year and move on… but no, he’s saying he’d rather retire – That’s a horrible attitude… And anyone who says that it’s perfectly fine to complain about making 2 million a year to “PLAY” the greatest game in the world is full of it… Making excuses that they are putting their bodies on the line… YEAH they are, for millions of dollars and they CHOOSE to do it! I’d do it in a second if I had the chance… There’s no greater job in the world… But that’s right; he wants to retire because he’s not getting his way – Man, that’s some awesome passion, that’s the heart of a player that I want on our team, huh!
3.) We just signed A. Bryant and we all know that Battle will start and could potentially be a really good player for us… By bringing in Walker, all you’re doing is pushing Battle back again and saying that we give up on our former 1st Round draft pick Rashaun Woods… People are upset with him because he has been hurt, but we will never know how talented he is if we put him as our 4th receiver on the team.
I’m sure a lot of people may think that I’m wrong, and I could completely be wrong; but I just don’t feel that Walker is a player that we should want on our team!
5 hours after the fact.Vin said:
So what if a person feels they outplayed their rookie contract. If that is the case, they shouldn’t have signed one for so long anyway.
He couldn’t have believed that he wouldnt perform when he was drafted. I’m one to believe a person should play out his/her contract. Its why they call it a contract.

Regarding Rice…. leave the guy alone, Nolan doesn´t want him. Rice is part of our history, he gave us a chance, but Nolan (and I agree with his decision, said you the best Jerry, but no thanks). Rice thanks for everything, wherever you are.

Vin: I’m not saying he shouldn’t have played out his contract. I’m saying the Packers should have done something about it. They were something like $10-20 mil under the cap last year. If nothing else atleast sign the guy to an extension or something.
The guy was clearly on his way to being a top 10 reciever in this league (if he wasn’t already there), if nothing else put some incentives in his contract. The Packers were trying to be cheap bastards and get away with paying the guy $1.5 mil a year. There’s #3 recievers in the league that make more then that (and not just on the Redskins).

Walker’s salary for this year is $650,000. Not $2 million So yes, he wanted to be payed what he was worth. He did the respectable thing to play and not hold out and the packers spit in his face and didn’t work with him. I wouldn’t mind picking him up.

I like Battle at the 2nd WR, but we all know it wouldn’t hurt 2 have some insurance. However I believe that policy will come in the form of Woods, who was super talented in school and as of yet nobody knows what 2 expect. Very rarely do you find a 3rd round WR able to prodcue at Walkers level when they first come out. The guy is young, world class talent and in interviews he shows character. GB hung him out and now he is “damaged” goods. Does no one remember Battle is “damaged” goods? He has not finished a season so why not give Walker who’s only time away was this lastest injury.

Why give up a quality pick for a guy were just going to lose after next season. You have to remember he’s a free agent after next year and there’s no garantee he will want to re sign here.
