We have a Rashaun Woods update. We repeat we have a Rashaun Woods update. No, he didn’t place first in the local Bass fishing tourney, or buy some new kickass tackle. We have a quote from Woods little brother D’Juan. Here is what D’Juan said recently when asked about his older brother, Rashaun.
“He is back 100 percent and hoping to stay that way, ready to come out and ready to make a contribution to San Francisco’s team,” D’Juan said. “He’s been hit by the injury bug quite a bit. He hasn’t been 100 percent since his senior year and even then he came off surgery.“He said he is 100 percent and I believe him. I’m anxious to see the type of things he can do because I know his potential.”
Memo to D’Juan: 49er fans will not be holding their breath.

OVERVIEW
1 hour after the fact. One of college football’s elite players, Woods went on to break every school and Big 12 Conference season and career records for receiving … The two-time All-American also established a collegiate record after catching seven touchdown passes vs. Southern Methodist in 2003 … Spent his senior campaign grooming his brother, D’Juan, to take over for him as the Cowboys’ main offensive threat next year … The two brothers had the rare pleasure of finishing 1-2 among the team’s receivers in 2003, as the tandem accounted for 108 receptions for 1,846 yards and 16 touchdowns for OSU … A starter since the early part of his freshman season, Rashaun went on to catch 293 passes for 4,414 yards (15.1 avg.) and 42 touchdowns, topping the previous Big 12 records of 205 catches for 2,704 yards by Justin Gage of Missouri (1999-2002) and 22 scores by Quincy Morgan of Kansas State (1999-2000) … Became the eighth player in NCAA Division 1-A annals to gain over 1,000 yards receiving in a season three times in a career (last one to accomplish that feat was Trevor Insley of Nevada, 1997-99 — 1,151 in 1997, 1,220 in 1998 and 2,060 in 1999) … Only Troy Edwards of Louisiana Tech (50, 1996-98) and Aaron Turner of Pacific (43, 1989-92) had more touchdown catches in NCAA history … Only Arnold Jackson of Louisville (300, 1997-2000), Insley (298) and Geoff Noisy of Nevada (295, 1995-98) had more receptions in Division 1-A annals … Only Insley (5,005) and Marcus Harris of Wyoming (4,518, 1993-95) had more yards receiving in a career in NCAA history.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a well-defined body with solid lower body and calf development and room in his upper body to add additional bulk … Has good quickness in and out of his breaks, showing sudden movements to get open and gain yardage after the catch … Gets off the line of scrimmage and into his routes immediately … Runs outstanding pass routes, showing crispness and explosive stop-and-go agility … Reads coverages well, making proper adjustments on the run … Can turn a short catch into a big play with his speed … Has strong hands and the ability to catch away from the body’s frame … Remains focused and has great toughness catching in a crowd (will take the hit and hold on) … His speed and hip swerve allows him to elude defenders after the catch … Has excellent leg drive and strength to break arm tackles and drag defenders for extra yardage … Willing blocker who will not back down from a fight, getting good position and hand placement on the defender … Role model-type who can handle pressure … Has the separation speed to defeat most defensive backs in the deep zone … Relishes his role as the go-to receiver and has proven to be the difference-maker with the game on the line.
Negatives: FEW,IF ANY FLAWS TO HIS GAME, but could do a better job of tracking the ball in over his shoulder on deep routes (has misjudged these passes on more than one occasion).

I’d love it for Woods to live up to his potential. Not sure if will ever happen, though.

I’m not holding my breath, but lets hope he performs now like he was meant to.
If for no other reason but to give his brother D’Juan a better chance of getting drafted, I hope Rashaun works his ass off.

Lets cross our fingers on this guy, he does have the potential to be a good player as long as he doesn’t get hurt and puts in the effort.

Woods is arguably the greatest “major conference” receiver in the history of the NCAA. Hopefully this is his year!

If he is going to step up his game this is his best chance of doing it. With no solid # 2 reciver Woods and Battle should battle for the # 2 reciver spot, hopefully both can improve their game
