Update: 8:44 – It seems Peterson and his agents are looking for $20 million guaranteed. We are hearing the Niners probably would not even pay half of that.

We decided to dig a little deeper on this quote from Nolan. We are now hearing that the niners are drafting up a contract for Julian Peterson. After Carter signed with the Redskins, Nolan and Co. turned their attention to the linebacker corps. They solidified it by re-signing Brandon Moore at a very reasonable price. Now they are turning their attention to Peterson.

JP coming back to SF!? Man I will go nuts if I see that headline on ESPN and the niners website. If he returns to 100%, then we would have some pass rush back (considering the videos of him smacking down qbs in ‘03 and the 1st part of ‘04). Signing JP can give us a chance to draft Vernon Davis, which would give Smithy 4 targets in Bryant, Battle(lets hope he battles on the field and not the injuries), Johnson( ditto for him too), and Davis. Then with later 1st day picks we can get a CB and maybe a pass rushing DE to groom in for an aging Young. Thats all I gots to say until next time.

He isn’t worth 20 mil gauranteed. Incentives to increase his salary dramatically would be good. But to gaurantee that much to someone who has not been the same since a serious injury is insane.

Well honestly 20 mill is way to much for a linebacker, almost any linebacker in the league at that. Especially coming off of a huge injury 2 years ago and having a none JP year last year. I think we need to make another 1 year contract with him so he can prove that hes back to the regular JP. Then maybe next season give him the big money or even tag him if he can prove hes 100% and is the player he once was. Hes my favorite player in the league as of now, but the nienrs come before JP, if he wants to be greedy and take all of this money without producing like the 2 years even without the injury last year its just gonna hurt the team. Thats why I say just give him the one year contract and see where it goes from there.
