I partally agree with MJ.We need to adress and improve the Off. Line.I don´t know if we´ll be able to pick guys like D.B. Ferguson or Winston Justice in the draft but I really like JON RUNYAN (OT,Philadelphia Eagles). He´s a proven, quite efficient vet and I think he could even play guard if necessary, due his characteristics and skills. Oh,he´s 32 ?? Ok,but you really can´t build a solid team without some experienced, qualified ones- even to help the young players development- and remember offensive linemen like Ray Brown (an effient player until last season,at the age of 43) and Bruce Matthews (former Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans).
I think we also need to check the linebackers situation and the receiving corps, still.

You know what, I think I hurt some feelings with my cander and "tell it how it is" approach to this post. I see Dave up there got a little angry. I am probably a bigger niners fan that you are, idiot, so do not throw names around because you may disagree with my opinion. We have over $20 million in cap. Yes, one player is not better than the rest of the team nor does one player make a team. But getting two or three big names does many things:
1. It gives you PROVEN talent (not rookies!)
2. It wil. stock up stadiums! (I go to 4 games a year, this year I plan on only making the Raiders game. What of you Dave? In addition to stadiums being packed, you will also have apparel selling so that penny pinching owner, York, will not have to worry about not getting whatever money he spends back.
3. It will give us a chance to be a playoff team NOW, not later. We have this money, you say do not use any of it? I am not sayoing exhaust it all, but hell make an impact! We are after Gilmore of the dolphins now, and Tod Kollins of the chiefs??? (Tod Kollins is supposed to come in and teach Alex Smith since he is a veteran (he has played 12 of his last 128 games.))

Whether you agree or disagree with me I say what I say cuz thats my opinion. I am still faithful, but this niners legacy is dying fast. As a fan you should demand our team show some signs of assuring its fans it is trying. Instead, we are taking baby steps in our 3RD YEAR OF REBUILDING!!! Even if we get Peterson back, whats the difference between this year and last year? Our weakness was and forever will be the O-Line. What did we do about that? Bently is gone, Hartwig is gone, Mawae is available but probably too old for Nolan. Do you know the niners do not even have a Center on our roster other than our injury prone Jeremy Newberry? Nothing changed from last year to this year. We will have a runningbacks war between Gore, Hicks, and Barlow (which may sound nice but it won't be.) You will have Bryant instead of Lloyd, who will probably still struggle with inexperienced Alex. If it were up to me, you get (with the current FA market) you get Aarington, Mawae, Hope, possibly Stephen Neal, and put in transition a trade that would send Barlow and a third round pick for Javon Walker. Again, for you doubters who think this kills cap space, add it up. We will have over 14 million left with the 5 million increase in cap next year.
Don't like my opinion, thats cool. But it is you, Dave, who is an idiot for being oblivious and stubborn in one position.

People like the guy above me is why the landscape of the NFL is wrong. What you dont understand is that you dont need those big name free agents to succeed in the NFL. Look at what the Patriots and Redskins have done in the last 6 years and youll see what I mean. A few years ago the Redskins went out with all that money, picked the wonderboy Arrington, drafted Samuels, signed all of those lame RFA ie:Chad Morton, the kicker from San Diego and a couple of other guys who was supposed to put them in the hunt. Brunnell, portis, coles. And they signed them for big contracts. They are in the same position now as they were three years ago, but now they are signing round 3 of wasted money with guys like lloyd, carter, archuleta, randle el. Now look at what the Patriots have done, I really cant think of any high priced free agents thay have picked up in the past. Dillon was a draft day pickup. Shoot I think they won a superbowl with kevin faulk and antwain smith running the ball. To my knowledge the biggest FA signing was Rodney Harrison and I believe he came cheap. They just seem to find a guy and plug him in when he is a lot cheaper and is not gaining a whole lot of attention. And very good drafting habits. So when people spout off about the 49ers not picking (wasting money)up any high profile players I just laugh at what they have to say because I have faith in what Mike Nolan and Scot Mclaughlin are doing. The guy above me probably liked the job Carmen Policy did. By the way are you serious? sign Mawae, hes like 36 and with bad knees. I dont want to sound so negative but the money these teams are throwing at mediocre players is crazy. I do feel that they need to get Julian Peterson back if possible. He is just a year back from an achilles injury and he played decent. They cant let our playmaker leave. Best case scenario is draft either AJ hawk or Mike Huff depending on who is available and get another Dominque Byrd in the second. Sign Hope and whatever dlineman they can and go from there. later

I don't get it. Why would we take Archuletta when we have Parrish? Why would we take Jamal when he's on the down? Why would we take Lavaar when the Ponsons represent him and he'd be just as expensive as JP. We might as well keep JP. Whatever you're smoking, I want some of it. No way in hell Ferguson falls to us at pick #6 and if he did, even Nolan would take him. And Bennett is just as stupid as Jamal. Trade Barlow, keep Gore/Hicks, we just re-signed Moore, get another LB in the draft, pick up some O line guys and we're set for continuing our rebuild. No way we're contenders with your rambling ideas.

As for your long post, your a dumb ass.
If we sign
Arrington
Archuletta
Bently
Mawae
Then we would be exactly were we were 2 years ago. In cap trouble and in last place again.
The Bryant, Moore signing were GREAT deals for significantly less. Moore who had about 30 more tacles and 1 more sack then Carter was signed for $8 million were as Carter was signed for $30. Tell me thats not a great deal.

The Redskins have tossed money to the top Free Agents since Snyder took over. How many Super Bowls have they won since. Huh zero, how about apperances, zero. The name of the players don't mean jack shit. We also signed Bryant for significantly less then what Lloyd got. Another great deal. So I say we are 2-0 for the offseason.

FYI the packers signed both their DEs so expect them to sign AJ Hawk. So if the Saints sign Brees the draft will change significantly.
