Update: 8:05 – Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports free agent WR David Givens, has not received much attention from the San Francisco 49ers. Givens’ agent, Brad Blank, said the 49ers called shortly after the free-agent signing period began Friday night, March 10, but he had not heard back from them. Also seems Givens is staying an extra day in Tennessee, reports are they will try and work out a deal.
David Givens left Houston Sunday heading to Tennessee without a contract. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is reporting Givens is looking for a 5 year deal in the range of 25 million. Head coach Mike Nolan has told Givens agent Brad Blank that if Givens is still unsigned by midweek the Niners would most likely bring him in for a visit. Of course, with the signing of Bryant things may change, considering at this time we have no info on the amount of money Bryant is going receive. If Nolan can pull this signing off as well, a trio of Battle, Bryant, and Givens wouldn’t look so bad.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the 49ers are one step behind every other team, both on the field and in FA. I like the signing of Bryant but if we dont add another experienced WR, defenses will play to his side and negate his impact.

If they play 2 his side that should leave Eric Johnson and Battle open. I’ll take that. But another wr would be nice. How about making vernon davis a wr? he runs a 4.3

Bryant was signed to a four-year deal for $15 million and a $5 million bonus. It would be very nice to sign Givens for that price, but with our luck, we will get probably get picked up by Tennessee.

i say we still need givens as a #2 wr. he gets open ALOT and Bryant is a big play guy. We still need to get v. davis because we need a back up for johnson. running 2 TE formations will also help the running game.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – David Givens, one of Tom Brady’s primary targets on two of New England’s Super Bowl winners, has signed with the Tennessee Titans.
“My opportunities here to flourish were a little bit better,” Givens said.
Givens caught 59 passes for 738 yards and two touchdowns last year for New England. He would be a big boost for a receiving corps that featured three rookies last season with only one player with more than two years’ experience.
The Titans also agreed to terms with center Kevin Mawae, released last month by the New York Jets. The 35-year-old Mawae, a six-time Pro Bowler, missed much of last season with a triceps injury and will replace Justin Hartwig, who signed with Carolina.
Titans General Manager Floyd Reese said he had been interested in Givens for both his ability and his work ethic.
“He will hopefully be a Titan for a number of years and finish his career here,” Reese said.
For his career, Givens has 158 receptions for 2,214 yards and 12 touchdowns in four years with New England. He is the Patriots’ career leader in postseason touchdown catches with seven.
