ESPN.com’s John Clayton reports the San Francisco 49ers have re-signed LB Brandon Moore to a five-year, $8 million contract.
___________
– Greg Beacham, of the Associated Press, reports the San Francisco 49ers will visit with free agent safety Chris Hope (Steelers) sometime this week.
– Dennis Georgatos, of the Mercury News, reports the San Francisco 49ers will visit with free agent
WR Bryan Gilmore (Dolphins) Tuesday, March 14.
Again if what we heard is true that if a player visits he will sign or has been signed. Hope and Gilmore should be 49ers after their visits. Take that for what it’s worth.
Update: 8:05 – Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports free agent WR David Givens, has not received much attention from the San Francisco 49ers. Givens’ agent, Brad Blank, said the 49ers called shortly after the free-agent signing period began Friday night, March 10, but he had not heard back from them. Also seems Givens is staying an extra day in Tennessee, reports are they will try and work out a deal.
David Givens left Houston Sunday heading to Tennessee without a contract. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is reporting Givens is looking for a 5 year deal in the range of 25 million. Head coach Mike Nolan has told Givens agent Brad Blank that if Givens is still unsigned by midweek the Niners would most likely bring him in for a visit. Of course, with the signing of Bryant things may change, considering at this time we have no info on the amount of money Bryant is going receive. If Nolan can pull this signing off as well, a trio of Battle, Bryant, and Givens wouldn’t look so bad.

03.13.06—I know what you’re thinking. What could possibly lead a grown man to make the title for an article about football with a lyric from a Shania Twain song? I wish I knew the answer. But just take comfort that I didn’t call it Man, I Feel Like A Woman.
The point of the title is simple: the state of panic that many 49er fans seem to be trapped in right now is overblown. It’s been running rampant for the last 2 days. “Oh, God, look at what everyone else is doing! We’re doomed!” Well my friends, relax and grab a smoke, because it ain’t that bad.
The St. Louis Rams have made several splashes in the free agent puddle, picking up LB Will Witherspoon from Carolina, DT La’Roi Glover from Dallas, and S Corey Chavous from Minnesota. Great. Witherspoon has all the appearances of a gamebreaker, but Chavous and Glover are both players that are on the downsides of their careers, and both were extremely overpaid. Meanwhile, Arizona made the biggest noise of all, landing Edgerrin James. Good for them. They had capable running backs last season (including a 2nd round pick in JJ Arrington) that accomplished nothing behind an inept offensive line. James will help, but the Cardinals had oodles of talent last season, and look where that got them.

KFFL is reporting that the Redskins have signed Andre Carter to a 6 year deal worth $30 million, with a $10 million signing bonus. With the departure of Carter that leaves the Niners with only Jeff Ulbrich and Derek Smith at this time.
Update: 11:43 – We have learned the deal Bryant signed is a 4 year 15 million dollar deal with a signing bonus around 5 million.
Update: 8:16 – For those out there looking for confirmation on this signing. Our reports have been confirmed by Craig Massei of the SF Illustrated. Massei is saying this:
The news on Bryant is for real. The 49ers have agreed with him in principle on a new deal, and there are just a few issues to finalize before there’s an official announcement.
Update: 4:44 – The official announcement on the signing of Antonio Bryant will be made this morning. We are hearing the deal is a 4-5 year deal. No word yet on the amount of the contract.
Update: 6:45 – Antonio Bryant has been signed. No word yet on length of deal.
Update: 5:30 – We learned earlier this afternoon that the 49ers and Antonio Bryant are close on a deal. Both parties are trying to reach an agreement at this time.
Of course as everyone already knows, Bryant is in town. No contract has been signed at this time. The Niners are very interested. It is believed Nolan wanted to meet him face-to-face before deciding whether to pursue him, because there are some character issues.
