Simple as that. The Niners need to draft Vernon Davis. I have been on the AJ Hawk bandwagon since the end of last season, but after hearing more and more of Davis, then seeing his combine numbers. The Niners need this offensive weapon. For those living in a cave or under a rock, Davis destroyed at the combine coming in with these numbers:
Measured in at 6’3" and 255 pounds and ran the 40, per a league source, in 4.38 seconds. 4.38 seconds for a Tight End? You have to be kidding me. I say the hell with the defense. Grab ‘The Duke’ at number 6 then look for defense in Round 2.

Davis is a real stud, who would be a great addition. I would definitely want to move him to fullback. He has crushing blocking ability (see him run over Mario Williams), unbelievable speed, and an almost unstopable drive after contact. We can definitely count on him as a reciever out of the backfield as well.
29 mins after the fact.He is a little short for a tight end, but a great fit for a Norv Turner style offense—and probably a physical improvement over the Moose that Turner featured in Dallas.
I think that we should target one of the three top tight ends out of the draft. Mercedes Lewis could be an incredible slot reciever at the next level and Leonard Pope could be the best Tight End in the NFL in a couple of years. I mean . . . who is supposed to cover 6’6” or 6’7”, 250 # in the seam?

Thing that worries me is that if the Niners pass on Davis…the Cards or Rams will most certainly pick him up. I do not want Davis drafted by a team in the West.

First off, this is the first time I’ve posted here but this is not the first time I’ve visited this site. I run my own Bucs blog and I hope to get my site to the level of this one eventually.
Second, Vernon Davis is a beast. I watched this guy play at Maryland and he would be a perfect H-back. He’s not quite a tightend, not quite a receiver, not quite a fullback BUT you want him on the field at all times. I can not emphasize enough how much this guy looked like a man among boys when he played at UM. It regularly took 2 or 3 guys to tackle, the first defender almost always failed to wrap him up. Don’t know if the 49ers have room for a H-back but this guy would fit the bill.

Jeeze Jason, what do you have against fullbacks. There are sooo many possibilities to be a playmaker—with or without the ball—from back there. He is quick enough to stay ahead of a running back down the field or break into the slot or crossing route out of the backfield. I think he has skills and physical abilities to make him a bigger contributor frm the fullback position.
If you want a classic tight end, hope for Leonard Pope or Mercedes Lewis in round two instead, and grab D’Brick, AJ Hawk, Mario Williams or Michael Huff with pick 6.
Pick 6 has so much potential for either an awesome pick or a trade down. I wouldn’t take less than an extra pick in the frirst two rounds for pick 6. I would trade some good current players for extra picks in the first two rounds.
Antonio Cromertie or Greg Blue could be great extra additions to our seccondary in those rounds. I think that Greg Blue is the hottest sleaper lying out there in round two.

THe Niners need to draft V Davis without question. THis brings immediate talent to the offense. Last time I checked we have non. Although with the addition of Larry Allen along with Jennings on the left side, it looks promising for Gore to get more space to run. P.S. can we please get rid of KWAME HARRIS Right NOW
